Tuesdays Troubles

It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Troubles. I’ve said it before, but this should be named “things i’m annoyed / confused / want to complain about”, however I couldn’t figure out how to make any of those into a snappy title, so Tuesday Troubles it is. And yes, I do realize that these aren’t true “troubles”. I know these for sure could be defined as first world problems!

~I joined a few local Buy / Sell / Trade groups on Facebook and OMG that is drama. First of all there appears to be a lot of people who don’t meet as planned and then the other people gets back on the board and goes crazy abut it and a big fight happens. And then there are the listings themselves. People want to sell everything. Half empty container of gummy vitamins? Listed. Old bras? Let’s list that too. A pile of half used cosmetics? You know it’s there! And don’t even get me started about the number of obviously fake Coach purses on there. It’s clear that many ladies have attended purse parties over the years! I haven’t even had time to list anything because I am so stunned by the other listings! Has anyone had a similar experience??

~During every season of The Bachelor / Bachelorette, I think to myself oh of course you think all these dates are OMGSOAMAZING.  You are on vacation in amazing places doing amazing things every day.  How about we set you two up at Chili’s with a few kids and see how that works out?

~Why are the smaller kitchen garbage bags white?  Am I the only one who thinks it’s gross to have to see my trash once again after I throw it away?  Why aren’t they black like the big garbage bags?  It totally grosses me out.  And you know what’s worse?  Seeing other people’s white garbage bags out on garbage day.  I am even more grossed out if people have clear garbage bags.  So nasty.

~When do you start to give your kids a stuffed animal or a blanket or a pillow to sleep with?  What’s the age suppose to be on that?  Because WB still sleeps with nothing.   I’m 99.9% sure he’d just toss whatever it was out of his crib anyway, but I’m curious to hear what everyone else does / did.  I can’t remember what we did with L, but he was out of his crib before he was two and into a regular bed so maybe he didn’t have a pillow till then?  I do think he had “triangle” way before then though!

~Someone please tell me how to get WB to stop throwing things on the floor when he eats.  If he doesn’t want it.  Boom.  To the floor.  This goes on and on and on.  It’s tolerable when the dogs are here, but super annoying when they are not and I have to clean it up.  He could care less if I tell him no and is a feisty easter as it is, so I want to make sure he still actually eats and doesn’t just get so pissed off that he can’t throw things on the floor that he forgets to eat!

That’s it from here for now! What’s troubling you today?

I’m a part of a yard sale group like that. There’s some really great things on there, but also a bunch of junk. I got a porch swing free off there that I refurbished for like nothing. My son still throws his blankets and pillows out of his bed, but my daughter has slept with one of those blankets with an animal attached since like 3 months. So I think it depends on the kid.

They now make BLACK kitchen trash bags!!!!! I felt the same way as you and when I saw them, I was SO excited!!! They are either Hefty or Glad and they are easy to find. You know you will be looking the next time you go to Target!

I’ve joined a couple groups here too trying to get rid of the last couple big things and wow they are crazy. I also joined a local online moms group thats just for questions and answers no selling and its so much nicer. Maybe its when you add all those men in the mix 😉 I belong to a great online b/s/t group for clothes and small things if you want an invite. You’ve seen some of the ladies in our sub box b/s/t group.

Not sure about the sleeping. N has his thumb and found it pretty early. He also had what we call dirtie dog ( a dog/blanket lovie) and I want to say he started with that around 1ish. He took it everywhere and then one day when he was about 3.5 he said he was leaving it at home when we went to run errands and that was it. He was done. C is almost 2.5 and sleeps with a full crib of stuffies and his blanket. He fills it up every night. I want to say he was maybe 1/5ish when we started letting him have some things in his bed and he just recently started with a pillow. So different with him since he’s still in a crib and no desire to get out and N was out just after he turned 2. At this rate C will be 30 and still in his crib. 🙂 Not that I’m complaining.

Our solution to the throwing thi gas on the floor was to pretty much ignore Stefanos during meal times…I know that sounds bad but we just pretended not to notice what he was doing and within a week he quit. We also moved the tray from his high chair and pulled him up to the table. I thi k he feels likes big kid when we do that and messes with food less then too.
Oh, and the garbage bag thing….yuk. In England all the bags are black.

I have started giving my son a lovey and a blanket whenever he goes to sleep. I don’t know if it helps, but I would say the younger you start the more attached they will be. Also, ignoring the throwing and letting him be done eating at that time will probably stop the habit in a week or so. Tell him that shows you that he is done. Hope that helps!

We had stuff in with Annalise at about 10 months? But she has a December birthday, and I didn’t want her to be cold. Now at 18 months she has a full sized pillow, 2-3 blankets, and a ton of stuffed animals 😉 Usually she sleeps UNDER the pillow, and with the blankets cast to the side.

I’m on a few B/S/T boards but have never bought or sold anything…they don’t seem nearly as dramatic as yours!

My daughter just turned one and I give her a blankie to sleep with. She doesn’t always use it but it’s my baby blanket from when I was little and I like to put it on her after she’s fallen asleep. She also likes to play with before she settles down to sleep. I think I started giving it to her at 9 months.

My son does the same thing with the food! I was wondering at what age they stop doing that. He also slams his body back and forth in his high chair every time he’s in there. At first it was funny, now it’s getting old. Not only do I panic about him choking, but it prolongs the already lengthy meals!

  9. Lindsay

Oh yeah, B (my son) doesn’t use a blanket or pillow in his crib. He has 2 little bears that sleep at the end of his crib, that he throws out in the morning. I heard that blankets are ok to use around 18 months. I figure just in time for winter.

What’s troubling me today is fitbit….which one do you use? I was all set to get the flex when we returned from vacay yesterday; my husband was all “I don’t know why you want that thing”…now we’re back and HE has the fitbit one and I have NOTHING! I like the wristband of the flex–but it doesn’t count stairs?? Not that I go up a lot, but I want them to count, you know? So I guess I will go with the one–but then how will I remember to get in the habit of putting it on?? Just wondering what you think and what you’ve heard!!

I’m pretty sure that 2 is the magic age for pillows and blankets. We have been giving S small lovey stuffed animals since he was 12 months, but he just throws them out of the crib before curling up for the night. :-/

I too was on a search for black garbage bags for my kitchen (I need 13 gallon bags) and I found some at Target and Walmart. They are the Hefty Black Out brand.

  13. I belonged to a ton of buy/sell/trade groups back in my shoegame day but immediately dropped out of all them due to the high amounts of gossip and drama! The amount of people that would still continue to do business with shady apples and get ripped off amazed me! But the catty drama is what drove me to the brink… Those groups reminded me of HS all over again and yea, they had to go!

My mom likes to remind me every day how I used to sleep in a drop-sided crib that was probably more than likely painted with lead paint that was lined with no bumper but instead a massive amount of stuffed animals, oh and I slept on my stomach, and I’m alive to hear about it, lol. I’m not sure what age is appropriate to start moving kids in that direction, but I would assume after they turn one is a better time than any! My mom immediately moved me to a big girl the bed the minute I turned 1.

    Clear garbage bags?! Gross!!
Um, Mackenzie slept with her bear and all luvie blankets until she started throwing things in her crib. I think around 18 months. Now I’m not sure how she sleeps in her crib…..it doesn’t look like enough room with all the stuffed animals. But if I take something out…she knows. I have been wondering about the pillow thing….I figured I’d wait until she was in a toddler bed.
Then the food thing…..Mackenzie did it and it drove me up the wall. We don’t have a dog and our apt thinks dining rooms should have carpet. :/ macaroni, ravioli on carpet,…ugh!! I started giving her a few pices at a time. Then one day it just stopped, but not until 20 months or so….

I belong to one of those buy/sell groups in my area too. Sometimes it is my entertainment for the day! There was someone actually trying to sell prescription diet pills on the one I belong to! There are always arguments too. My favorite was an argument about whether a Louis Vuitton purse was real! The poster of the item insisted it was and was getting upset at the people saying it wasn’t!

Ahhh, some of those swap pages are aweful. I just removed myself from one. It’s like, no I do not want your dirty lawn gnome. Or your size 10 prom shoes from 2001.

Does WB have an Aden and Anais blanket? We use those and I feel so safe with it, it’s breathable Muslin. But don’t get it at like target or buy buy baby…order from diapers.com or something….the other ones are Aden by Aden ad Anais and not the real deal. The good ones come in a two pack single. They are softer and bigger, and well since WB is 1…you don’t want the smallest size.

When Alessio was a baby I took some RIE classes (resources for infant educators) and the leader just suggested we give the dialogue…WB doesn’t know what to do when’s he’s done…so instead of dont throw your food, you say what to do instead. Like, looks like you’re all done, next time just say “all done” and I’ll move it for you. Or looks like you’re all done eating…can you pass you’re plate to me? And hand it back. I’m not sure what words he has… Alessio would make the sign for more and all done. That was super helpful. It works with tons of stuff, like “this drawer stays closed” while blocking the drawer with your open hand…or “I’m not going to let you open this.” It’s much more difinitive and sort of paints the picture you want them to see…just an idea 🙂

Also, next time I should spell check! Ha!

About the throwing food on the floor. I definitely know how to fix that. Spray him in the face with a spray bottle. Hey it works with cats… :0)

on the online Buy Sell Trade drama… yeh it’s a hoot. I admin our local one for work and sometimes you just gotta laugh. The drama does spice up my mornings though. It’s amazing what people will argue with strangers over!

  19. Susan

I do not belong to a trade group, and from what it sounds like, I don’t think I’ll be joining one any time soon. LOL. I don’t need the drama. I just got my US weekly today and the cover story is on the bachelorette. I guess there ‘s drama everywhere, right? Kayla tends to throw the food on the floor that she doesn’t like. My dog is like a little vacuum cleaner. In fact, it usually doesn’t even hit the floor.
