It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Troubles. I’ve said it before, but this should be named “things i’m annoyed / confused / want to complain about”, however I couldn’t figure out how to make any of those into a snappy title, so Tuesday Troubles it is. And yes, I do realize that these aren’t true “troubles”. I know these for sure could be defined as first world problems!
~I am going to try to read a book a month(*) and am just finishing up “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns” and need some new recommendations. I was thinking “Orange is the New Black” since I love the tv show so much, but I am open to other suggestions. I can do chic lit, easy beach reads and interesting autobiographies (nothing too educational), but no romance novels, sci-fi, true crime, thrillers, etc. Any suggestions??
~So I have this crazy bunch of itchy bites on my leg. Super itchy. It’s been driving me SO nuts that I decided to google it (late at night of course) and I determined, via Dr. Google, that I had bed bug bites. I went so far as to tell B all about this and of course, he being all realistic and was asking me all these sensible questions like “Where’d you get them?” and “How do you have them but not me?”. No idea baby, but I am certain that’s what it is. Then I continued on with the dreaded phrase “I read on the internet that…..” and I realized right then and there that there was no chance he was listening anymore. So yeah, obviously I do NOT have bed bug bites (it’s just mosquito bites) and B is wishing that he really did block WebMD on my computer years ago ;). But listen, they really itched. Please tell me someone else has a WebMD issue like this? Once I read about it, I KNOW I have it. I just know it.
~The Graze chain that had been going appears to have stalled. I believe the chain started with 3 codes, which means that 3 people I sent codes to somewhere in the chain either haven’t redeemed yet or haven’t sent back their invite codes. Come on people, send those codes back or at least let me know you aren’t going to use yours or gave your invite code to someone else (GASP) or whatever so I can go on a hunt for another code to get it moving again!
~I went through my gmail inbox has night to try and clean it up a bit and realized that I had, umm, 188 drafts. How on earth does this happen? Half of them were blank (WTF) and the rest were a mixture of actual drafts and notes I had saved for myself (guess that 2011 To-Do List isn’t getting done). My inbox is a disaster. I just need to learn to live with this mess because I don’t think it’s ever getting clean.
~Any tips for getting back into the swing of things when L starts school? I am going to be driving him, so we are all going to have to be up and out the door in the morning and umm, we are not morning people around here. Do we need to be adjusting bedtimes slowly over a period of a week or two? Because listen, L is on summer VACATION and is taking his job seriously. It’s going to be a big adjustment and I want to make it as easy as possible. Help!
That’s it from here for now! What’s troubling you today?
I totally get the WebMD thing, I don’t allow myself to use it anymore. I also can’t watch medical dramas ala Greys etc for the same reason. I am a raging hypochondriac and I know I am but I just can’t stop!
Have you Read Something Borrowed and Something Blue by Emily Griffen? Those are two of my favs of all time. Really I love everything by her. Did you like Revenge wears Prada? I tryed to start reading it but just couldn’t get into it ?! Maybe I’ll try again.
Also that is hilarious about the bug bites cuz I just went through the same thing with my husband. My daughter got a bunch of mosquito bites and I looked them up and started getting all freaked out and my husband was like” ummm none of us has them”… Yup they were mosquito bites and went away in a couple days! Gotta love Webmd!! 🙂
My graze code is PZ1C7LJ… I gave it to you before but no one used it so far.
My list of book suggestions – books I’ve read recently, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me and Other Concerns by Mindy Kaling….. the Amanda Knox book… and I’m reading Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan… and next I plan to read Justin Bieber’s mom’s book. I read Taylor Armstrong’s book, and Kyle Richards (I don’t recommend kyle’s but I’m on some sort of mission to read every housewive book ever written and idk why)…. I read one book a month too!!
Not sure if you like historical fiction, but I am LOVING the “Her Royal Spyness” series by Rhys Bowen. The main character is a minor British royal (34th in line to the throne) set in the Great Depression, between WW1 & 2. She takes on investigating issues for the Queen (like the prince falling for Wallis Simpson) to earn some extra cash, and runs into people like Coco Chanel. It’s light, funny, and since it takes her several books to even get engaged, definitely not romance novels!
My kids are early risers anyway, so I don’t have much help there, but maybe the day before school starts, wake everyone up and get ready on the “school schedule”, then take your kids out to breakfast? So you get an idea of what works & what doesn’t, but there’s no actual pressure to be there on time? Good luck!
I just finished Bossypants (Tina Fey’s “memoir”) and thought it was a funny, easy read. I’ve been wanting to read Mindy Kaling’s book too – she’s really funny!
Your bites might be chigger bites too – not that that helps you out any, just trying to ease your rampant WebMD mind!
The amount of work I have to do at my house between now and Friday is giving me serious anxiety. I wish I could just hire a cleaning/organizing lady. I bought a new MacBook Pro Friday and it’s STILL sitting in the box. That’s how ridiculously busy things have been. I’ll just hit the pause button here for a little bit 😛
Hahaha I do the same thing with webmd.
Omg. I’m having the same issue with Willard and myself. We have been on vacation since the end of March when I “retired”. I’m almost embarrassed to tell you what time this 5 year old has been going to bed. We are on a different 12 hour schedule for sure. I started putting him to bed again (opposed to letting him fall asleep whenever) and I’ve been shortening it by 30 min each night. We’re now at a midnight bedtime after 4 days. :-/
White Girl Problems is a funny beach read, and Bared to You is the first book in the Crossfire series, which is pretty good, it’s sorta like 50 Shades of Grey, but it didn’t make me feel dirty while I was reading it!
Start adjusting the bedtime slowly as it gets closer to school starting. It’s not that difficult, it’s already starting to get dark out earlier. Just get your routine going and you’ll be fine. It’s not always easy driving and picking up when you have a little one napping. It does force you to get going earlier, so maybe take Lucas to school and do your errands right from there. There have been many times I’ve had to get Kaycee up from nap to pick up Logan or Bailey. Not fun.
I just finished “Orange is the new Black” because I too loved the series. The book is a bit different but you can see where some of the characters from the series came from. It can be a bit preachy at times but as a memoir of the prison experience I highly recommend it – fascinating!
I used to work at WebMD’s headquarters and most everyone I worked with, myself included, had the same issue. You’d think I’d know better since I worked there, but no such luck.
Usually a few days before school starts I wake everyone up a bit earlier and try earlier bedtimes. That first week back is such an adjustment for everyone. Personally, I DREAD packing lunches.
3 things:
– try reading shantaram. It’s huge but it’s a rough autobiography of a dude who escaped prison. I LOVED it and before it, I was all chick lit all the time. It’s 1000+ pages but it was amazing. It’s changed my life. I NEED to go to India now. No question.
– sorry for the graze code fail. I’ve been bugging my mom to send me hers and she hasn’t yet.
– I had a mystery bug bite too and had determined it was either bed bugs or scabies. Both of which would have been ridiculous and impossible. I bought some intensive healing cream from Walgreens and was good to go after a few days. Liquid bandaid worked miracles too.
I want to read Orange is the new black too! I just started the show and really like it but I generally like to read things first!! I think I will have to check it out. Some recent books that I’ve read that I would recommend: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese, Zeitoun by Dave Eggars (Zeitoun is about one man’s account of Hurricane Katrina and it is unbelievable! its heartbreaking but it really opens your eyes to things that went on and I’m very glad I read it!)
Also have you read any Ann Patchett? I find them easy reads and really enjoyable! The stories definitely are captivating, a few I would recommend by her: State of Wonder, Bel Canto, Run, and the Patron Saint of Liars…. I find people either really don’t like her books or really like them… I wouldn’t say they are my favorite but they are also something different and refreshing and they aren’t too long and are an enjoyable read!
Good Luck!! I think I’m going to try to pick up Orange is the new Black today!
I always recommend my favorite book of last year to people “Where’d You Go Bernadette?” by Maria Semple…had me laughing out loud at times. Same with “Crazy, Rich Asians” by Kevin Kwan, fun beachy read and OMG I had no idea people could be that rich (and crazy :). I’m currently reading “The Cuckoo’s Calling” by Robert Galbraith aka J.K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame.
Ahhh omg yes! Read Orange is the New Black! I watch the show as well and just started reading the book. It’s different than the show in certain ways but just as addicting! I can’t put it down or stop watching the show. I’m trying to pace myself with the last two episodes I have left to watch.
Promise We Keep by Jane Green. A great tearjerking chic lit. I really enjoyed it!
Occasionally WebMd does help – although I usually think that I have really strange stuff too. I had a bump/sore like place on my face and thought that it was nothing until it kept going away & coming back – looked at WebMd and it looked like a type of skin cancer (not bad though) and it was! I just finished reading The Cuckoo?s Calling by Robert Galbraith aka J.K. Rowling and it was really great! It was a mystery but nothing too suspenceful. Since I’m from the south I love Mary Kay Andrews books. They are funny chick lit. Spring Break by her was really good. Also, have you read Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series? Love them for sure. Ok – I am done rambling!!!
I have a webMD/google problem…AND I’m a nurse! ha oops
I have read both Gone Girl and Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, and they are both awesome! I already have (and am hoping to read soon) the book she wrote between those two, which is Dark Places. Also, I don’t know if you’ve read the 50 Shades of Gray series, but if you haven’t, you MUST. Even though they are racy, they are really great reads! My all time favorite author is Mitch Albom. I would recommend reading anything by him (Tuesdays with Morrie, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, The Time Keeper, Have a Little Faith, For One More Day).
Can I get in on this graze chain?
Can you add me to the Graze list? I need a code!
