Tuesdays Troubles

It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Troubles. I’ve said it before, but this should be named “things i’m annoyed / confused / want to complain about”, however I couldn’t figure out how to make any of those into a snappy title, so Tuesday Troubles it is. And yes, I do realize that these aren’t true “troubles”. I know these for sure could be defined as first world problems!

~So as you know (since I talk about it all the time), I am on a quest for a new MacBook. Except I don’t really want to pay full price for it (I mean who does). So I was all, okay, I’ll do the Apple trade-in thing and trade in my current MacBook and get an Apple gift card to put towards my new one. Umm, no. I wasn’t thinking straight and realized that you have to mail in your computer and then they mail you a gift card. That’s all fine and good, but it’s not like I can (or want to) be without my laptop for days (weeks)?   Why can’t we just do this in the store?  Am I missing something here?

~Speaking of trading things in, we were at the mall yesterday (*) and can into this machine were you can immediately trade your old cell phone in for cash. Say what? We were super curious about it, so we pretended like we wanted to in an iPhone. The quote it gave us was low (like $80 less than NextWorth), but we were more wondering how it does it know you didn’t just steal a bunch of phones? Or that you aren’t just pissed at your boyfriend and decide to sell his phone? I suppose it could have asked you to scan a drivers license or something when you got farther along in the process, but it seemed odd!

~While at fro-yo (have I mentioned how much I love Orange Leaf?) the other day B asked me what flavors I got. Umm, you know what I had no idea. Once I mix them all in my cup and put the toppings on, I couldn’t even tell what they were. So I decided that I want to do a blind taste test with fro-yo. Would I be able to identify all the flavors without seeing the label? I’m not so sure about that. Can you tell?

~My brother recently found an adorable (**) little Westie with no tags.   He actually finds dogs fairly often since the city (aka Detroit) has a huge stray problem.  But anyway, he and my SIL searched and searched and put up ads on Craigslist and Facebook looking for the owner.  My brother even went back to the area he found him a few times to see if anyone had put up any lost dog signs. Nothing. WTF? If someone was actively searching for that dog, they would have for sure crossed paths.  This dog is house trained, super sweet and friendly and even got a clean bill of health from the vet.  It so sad thinking one day he was part of someone’s family and the next day was on the streets (dogs often get abandoned) ;(.  Happily he’s now part of my brother and SIL’s family (aka zoo), but it’s horrible to think about all those other dogs out there ;(.

~And finally today is the 8th anniversary of the day B and I first met.  Awww!  And yesterday while discussing it I couldn’t figure out what year we met.  LOL!  Since when did I get so awful with dates?  B guessed it was 7 years.  I knew it was longer but couldn’t place the year itself.  Luckily neither one of us are overly sensitive the other one has no clue, so we make a nice match ;).

That’s it from here for now! What’s troubling you today?

(*) I wanted to have a super fun do something special day and what’d we do? Went to the mall and went glo-golfing and played in the play area at the mall.
(**) Actually it was quite dirty and gross when he found him, but I’m guessing you could tell he was adorable even through the filth.

What’s troubling me today… I keep thinking about how messy the Big Brother house is… it’s starting to distract me from the show. Like a random what looks like a finished bowl of chocolate ice cream just hanging out on top of the couch. I couldn’t even listen to what they were saying, I was staring at the dirty dishes. Do they get their sheets washed? Do they have a laundry service? If I was stuck in a house all day, I think I’d spend about 2 ish hours a day cleaning just for something to do. Why don’t they ever make their beds?

This is my last week at work before I become an unemployed, full-time student. I think that’s a little troubling. As far as dogs on the street go, I adopted my Gavin almost a year ago and he was rescued from the streets. Same sort of deal: super sweet, potty-trained, well-mannered dog that had to have been someone’s pet at some point. I always wish they could talk to you and let you know what’s up. At the same time, I don’t think I want to know what he went through based on all the scars he has. All I know is that we’re definitely making up for any hardships he endured now – spoiled puppy!

That is really dumb about mailing the computer in by mail! Do you have to pay for shipping? I have been considering doing the same for a while. I am going to down grade to a smaller Macbook. I really don’t need the pro. I’d like something more compact.

Orange LEAFFFFFFF is my fave. Snickerdoodle is where it is. Also the new Rootbeer float is delish.

Happy anniversary to you and B!

The only thing annoying me today is this annoying headache I have from drinking cheap 2 buck Chuck from Trader Joe’s. lol. But the day is still young.

My parents live in the country and they are ALWAYS finding cats and dogs to take in, although it’s more of a cat problem than dogs here. Right now they have 7 cats and 1 dog. Just last fall I was visiting for Thanksgiving and we drove past a dog in the corn fields that sat in the same spot day after day until we brought him home. He was so loyal he never left the spot where his owners dropped him off. He had a clean bill of health and could do tricks! We tried to locate his owners, but same thing! Nothing! My dad ended up giving him away to a family at work (their house is already a zoo), but it never stops amazing me how many animals just get abandoned or don’t have homes. So sad!

On another note, C and I met 3 years ago and it will be 4 in January. He is so terrible with dates that if you ask him what season we met he usually says fall or summer. lol. Luckily I could care less and I happen to have an excellent memory for dates, so we make a good match. I remind him of those things! 🙂

Phone trade-in machine…so I had never seen one before either until we were on vacation in Colorado. Here’s the crazy thing, I watched a news program that showed these machines and all the trouble about them before I ever saw one in real life. They showed people stealing phones from shoppers at the mall to trade them in! Like beating people up or just bringing in stolen phones altogether. Supposedly it scans an ID/driver’s license and has a camera on the machine to do a facial match. The news program did a set-up where the person trading the phone had a different ID and the machine still took the phones. The company that does the machines was contacted and made aware of all these things but seemed like totally surprised by the findings. I think I’ll stick to trading in my phones at Best Buy for now.

I actually found my macbook at a pawn shop. It’s a 2011 and it was only $700. Not a bad deal all around.

I recently spilled coffee on my MacBook and it has been devastating so I understand the awful cost. I’m going to drive to Portland to avoid sales tax, and use my educator’s discount to save a bit, and sell the $100 iTunes gift card that comes with the computers til September (back to school special) for $85 to a friend. So that knocks the 13″ MacBook Pro to $915. That was preferable to $855 for a new logic board on a 3 year old computer. But it’s all awful.

Isnt it sad the dogs that are cast aside?? I grew up with dogs from breeders but now that Im on my own – I got MY first dog from a rescue shelter – she was a day away from being put down and why? Just because her original family (that had had her for approx 3 yrs) needed to move and didnt take the time to find a place that accepted dogs – its incredible! Their loss is definitely my gain, but it has opened my eyes to adoption and rescue and is something I think everyone should look into! We must save all the puppies! = )

we sadly don’t drive but we are from Toronto and would totally take the Westie!!! we already have one 🙂 I totally want more, I am obsessed with them, we have no kids and almost all of the free time includes her! 🙂 its so hard to get to rescue one over here, when someone puts an ad so many people want them, they’re spoken for in one day or less. so we had to buy our princess but next year we are getting one more as a company! I had a Yorkie for 13 yrs and can say this is not comparable to my old dog at all, every dog is different for sure but for me, Westies are the dearest and most intelligent and interesting dogs I have seen! <3 I hope your brother gives/finds him a good home! poor little critter :(((

Aha, I swear half the time if it weren’t for the label I wouldn’t be able to guess what froyo flavor I was eating.

Yeah having to send in the computer is pretty annoying, especially since they offer you so little for it. Do you not have a good craigslist area? When my 2006 MacBook needed to be upgraded for many reasons I cleaned the hard drive and put up a really honest listing on craigslist with closeups of scratches and the need for a certain part replacement. I got $400 from a great guy who wanted it for his girlfriend as a secondary basic computer. Many people also want them for parts.

I am so glad the doggie found a home. That is so sad – I can’t understand how someone could just leave one on the streets! I imagine the poor dog searching for their owners all day.

We went into the local Pet Smart this past weekend for some cat food and they were having a cat adoption day. There was this really nice friendly 10 year old cat whose family moved to Hawaii and didn’t take her so they took her to a shelter. You had the cat for ten years and you couldn’t take her with you? (Yes it might cost for quarantine but still…) or even find her a good home first? Sigh. I’ve thought about that sweet cat every day since. If my oldest cat already wasn’t jealous of our younger cat I would have brought her home.

Happy Meetaversary! My husband and I have no idea where or when we first met (we think a party…possibly on the couch that was on the roof…) as we were acquaintances in a group of friends for years…but we do know the month and day (we always forget the year) of our first “real” date…the day we both decided that we might be willing to actually get serious about each other (even though neither of us told each other at the time LOL). We celebrate that day every year.

Hubby and I used the EcoATM a few weeks back to unload all of the old cell phones and tablets we had laying around. {he has a bit of a gadget problem 🙂 } Ended up getting $212 for everything. I will take that over having all those things collecting dust in my house.
