This was last week’s Plated delivery, but I still wanted to share our thoughts on it.  Plated is a weekly meal subscription delivery service.  They send you all the ingredients you need to prepare meals of your choosing (I believe that the menu has 7 or 8 weekly options).   You can opt for their Membership option which is less expensive, but auto-subscribes you, or you can just opt to pay as you go.

The Box

Plated ships via FedEx and arrives either on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, depending on where you live.  Mine arrives on Tuesdays, which works out quite nicely.

First Look

Plated used the thinner packaging materials again this week, which I really like since it’s less waste.    We opted for the following two meals this week:

~Chicken with White Wine Pan Sauce:  This one was yummy!  Totally a “safe” pick for us and I know that we’d have this again. I think we’d make the potatoes a tad differently though because they seemed a bit salty?  They could have been better, but they certainly weren’t bad.  And I don’t know if I ever mentioned it, but you can go to “Past Recipes” on Plated and get the recipes for pretty much everything they have offered on their site.  How awesome is that?  Plus, they have reviews by members who have made them saying what they would tweak or change, etc. on them which is great. I always try to link to the recipes too when I can.

~Seared Salmon with Winter Citrus Salad: I’m not sure what happened with this one.  The salmon was delicious.  But the rice?  That needed to be cooked a lot longer than the recipe called for.  A lot longer.  I think B just gave up because we were so hungry!  I think it would have been amazing had the rice been done correctly!

Did you get Plated last week?  What’d you think?  Next week’s meals (1/28 or 1/29 deliver) are pretty much sold out, but you can order for (2/4 or 2/5) delivery right now as well!  The 2/4 Menu options are: Skirt Steak with Cilantro Chimichurri and Carrot-Citrus Hash (my pick), Vegetable Fried Rice (my pick), Pollock in Parchment with Potatoes and Roasted Carrots, Shrimp Scampi with Pecorino Roasted Broccoli, Tofu Vegetable Kebabs with Edamame Soba Noodles, Cauliflower Spinach Empanadas with Spinach Salad and Arroz con Pollo!

If you are interested in giving it a try or want to learn more, click here to try two free plates (new customers only).  Basically you’ll get 4 plates for the price of 2 ($30)!!  That’s 4 meals/plates for $30, which is less than $8/plate.

  1. um, i think they mixed up your wild rice mix for wild rice? mine looked like the picture.

    1. Jennifer

My picture might be a little dark, but I looked online and some people looked like their rice was white? So odd.

The wild rice I received looked white. The citrus salad was amazing! Definitely making this meal again once I find blood oranges.

We find it to be right on! We love it!

so is it 1 serving per plate or do you find it to be more ample serving than that

        1. Jennifer

Yes, 1 plate = 1 serving or a meal for one person. I find it to be just fine!

sorry bout the repeats it kept coming back suggesting required fields not completed duh lol

So between Plated, Hello Fresh and Peach Dish which do you like best? Which is freshest, what’s the best deal, etc.

Hmm! I *think* Blue Apron works out to the best deal.
      ~Blue Apron: $9.99/meal (You have to buy 3 meals so it’s $59.94)
~Plated: $15/plate (unless you get the membership). You can get two meals (aka 4 plates), so it’s $60 without the membership.
~Hello Fresh: $11.50/meal. You have to get 3 meals so a box is $69.

I don’t know that Blue Apron has many coupon codes, but you may be able to find them on one of the deal sites (Gilt City comes to mind) every now and then. You can always try Plated for $30 (that’d be two servings of 2 different meals). And Hello Fresh you can try for $44 with the code “RAMBLINGS2014” (that’d be two servings each of three different meals. Honestly, I’d try both Plated and Hello Fresh and then Blue Apron when it’s on a deal site and decide which you like best! It always depends on the recipes that week which one we like the best.
