Escape Monthly
Cost: $49.95/month
Ships To: United States and its territories.
I was just pulling up in the driveway today when my mailman (not sure were my lady was today) was walking up with a zillion packages. Round one he called it because he had more in his truck for me. LOL! One of those packages was my May 2014 Escape Monthly Box!
If you aren’t familiar with them, Escape Monthly, which is $49.95/month is a monthly vacation in a box. Each month you will discover products from a different location. Products consist off local and destination-inspired foods, relaxation and beauty essentials, and the highest quality products that bring the life of the destination right to you.
Escape Monthly ships via USPS Priority Mail. I received a shipping notification for this one on Friday and it arrived today (Monday), so I didn’t have to wait long at all. I love that they use Priority Mail!
Escape Monthly was one of the first boxes I opened from the stack today. I hadn’t seen any spoilers yet, so I was 100% spoiler free for this!
The May 2014 Escape Monthly theme was “California” and included the following items to help you drive into the West Coast lifestyle and chill out like a native:
~Moon California Wine Country Travel Guide ($21.99): The information card shows a different handbook (it was just the Moon California one) and I am kind of thinking this might be the one from the first ever Napa Valley Escape Monthly Box? I don’t mind this book – in fact I probably prefer it, but I thought it was curious.
~Juice Beauty Age Defy Hand Cream ($12): Love Juice Beauty hand cream and I was thrilled to get this in this month’s box. It’s not greasy and is just totally fabulous.
~Hugo Naturals Vanilla & Sweet Orange Soap ($3.99): I actually just got this exact soap in my Yuzen box this month. It smells fabulous and I love it, but I like to mix up my scents, so I will probably pass thing along to B or trade it. I
~Caliwater Cactus Water ($3.50): I expected this to taste gross (I was thinking along the lines of coconut water), but it’s actually good. I just had a few sips, but B drank it up in two minutes so he obviously approves as well.
~Nicobella Organics 2 Piece Truffle ($3.95): We haven’t gotten a chance to sample these yet, but I have also never met a truffle I don’t like, so I don’t expect any trouble here either ;).
~IPS All Natural Egg White Chips ($1.99): These are excellent! I am off to see if any local stores carry them because I already want more.
~San Franola Granola ($1.99): This is more of a B item (I am not a fan of cinnamon almond anything), so I will be sending this to work with him one of these days.
~Premium Sea Sponge ($7.99): This is headed in my shower right away. I still use the exfoliation cloth from last month (which is awesome by the way), but this will be good for day to day use. Sponges and puffs get gross quick, so I am always happy to get a replacement.
~Bonus: California Poppy Kit ($6.99): So cute! We will for sure be planting these in the yard! I picked up a bunch of other wildflowers for B to plant as well, so these will mix in nicely!
All totaled I came up with a value of $64.39 for the May 2014 Escape Monthly – “California” box. I pay $39.95/month for my subscription since I utilized the 20% off “lifetime” coupon code they offer and thought I got a pretty good deal. I wouldn’t mind though if they swapped out the guide books for something else.
What do you think of Escape Monthly this month? If you subscribed, which guidebook did you get? If you are interested in subscribing or just want to learn more, click here. You can use the code “MYESCAPE” to score 20% off, not only your first box, but all your other boxes for the life of your subscription. That gets you a discount of $10/month which is awesome! The June 2014 Escape Monthly destination is “Las Vegas” and is described as “Your Luckiest Escape Ever”. You know how I love Las Vegas so I am pretty excited about this already!
Got mine today too, and I was pretty excited to get the CA Wine Country book, which is for all the wine regions in CA. The Aug. 2013 box and book was just Napa & Sonoma.
ohh, good to know!
Oh! And I am so, so, so excited for the Las Vegas box! My husband and I went once or twice a year and finally decided to get married there last October.
Ahh, I love Las Vegas too!! Maybe we will get a mini slot machine! Where did you get married there?
We got married at the Chapel of the Flowers. We got the big two floor suite at the Golden Nugget and invited everyone back there for a reception. Almost 50 guests flew in for it! It was a great day!
I was thinking they could put in a deck of cards that were used at an actual casino. 🙂
Ohh that’s a good idea!
Question! Where do you do your box trades?
There is a Facebook group I am in or there is the My Subscription Addiction swap page or Makeup Talk!
As someone who was born and raised in California, the Wine Country specifically, I find this box to be so disappointing. There is so much more cool stuff they could have picked. I’m glad I didn’t order .
I thought this was more southern california themed since they already did a wine country one, but that book threw me for a look!
Yeah, living in California…this doesn’t seem very Californiaish at all (whereby coming up with a new word would be 🙂
I think that’s a word!
I live in SoCal and I don’t recognize a single thing from this box LOL.
I can think of a few things that would have made much more sense to include. None of these seem very “SoCal” to me. Though that water sounds really interesting!
When I think of cactus, I don’t really think of CA either!
I agree with the others. This box does not say California to me. So disappointed!
