I hd been hearing so much about the revamped Sample Society by Allure that I just had to see what all the fuss was about.  And once I saw the contents of the box (they revealed it before the box was shipped), I was sold.

If you aren’t familiar, Sample Society is the brainchild of the editors of Allure Magazine. Each month they select a curated mix of five deluxe skin, hair makeup and fragrance samples and deliver them to your door. Yyour subscription also includes a $10 off $50 BeautyBar purchase each month and an Allure penned “mini-magazine” which gives you the details on all the samples.

The Box

Sample Society ships via UPS and took only a few days to arrive. I don’t get too many subscription boxes directly from UPS but I like when I do!

Ohh, I love these red boxes! They are a great size to use to send beauty products and samples that I can’t use to friends.

First Look

Although I knew exactly what was in this box, I was so anxious to get my hands on it.  And you can probably see why.  The first look was amazing!

The Information Card

Everyone received the same products in the July 2014 Sample Society Box, but as I understand it boxes will be customized again beginning in August.  Here is what the July box contained:

~Fekkai PrX Reparatives Intense Fortifying Masque ($8): This is a once a week deep conditioning treatment.  I’ve used this in the past and have always been happy with the results.  It smells great and since you only have to do it once a week for a few minutes it’s a pretty easy routine to follow.

~Butter London Nail Lacquer (The Old Bill) ($15): There were three different variations of Butter London sent out.  They were all metallics and I am pretty happy with “The Old Bill” which is a coppery bronze.  The card says you can get away with only one coat of polish, but I never find this to be the case – no matter what the polish brand is.  I always need two.   Always.

~Maison Francis Kurkdjian Paris Aqua Universalis Eau de Toilette ($4.38): B received this in his Men’s Bergdorf Goodman GOSSYBOX and I have been trying to steal it ever since.  I absolutely love it.  It’s incredible.  It’s a citrus scent, but has a warm “musky” base.  At least that’s how it’s described. I just think it’s amazing!

~L’Oreal Paris Extraordinaire by Colour Riche Liquid Lipcolor (Ruby Opera) ($9.99): I don’t think I realized that this was a gloss until I tried to open it up.  I thought it was a lipstick and was shocked that I had unscrew it.  It’s glossy / shiny, not sticky and the color is very pigmented.

~Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder (Highlighter 01 – Golden Nude) ($8.31):  I briefly tested this with my finger and they are so right, a little does go a long way!  It’s gives a great shimmer though!  But I wonder, do I need to go get a special highlighter brush for this?  I am fairly certain that I do not own one, but maybe I should?

All totaled I came up with a value of $45.68 for the July 2014 Allure Sample Society box.  I was thrilled with my first ever box from them and I cannot wait to see what they do next month. It’s going to be hard to beat this month, but you never know!

I put on my MAC shimmery highlighter with a very fluffy brush that came in a cheap drugstore set of brushes. Works great and allows me to control the amount. If you have a blush brush that just isn’t very dense it should work fine.

      THanks!!!!

I heard about this last month, I think I’ll definitely be trying this out – looks like it’s on the level of Glossybox when it comes to the quality of the items more than justifying the price.

Your links are broken, though – it’s directing to your own 404 error page. When you fix them I’ll sign up under you if there’s an affiliate/referral program 😀

Thanks for the heads up! I wonder what I did to the links! It’s not an affiliate link or anything. Just to their homepage!

I was very happy with the box! I got the Bobby Dazzler polish (silver) and a light pink lippie. I like to use a fan brush for applying powder highlighter- I find it gives you just the right amount without overdoing it.

Thanks for the tip! I am headed to Ulta today so I will find one!

I can’t get the highlighter to show up on me! I guess my skin is too pale. First I just tried a little, and the second time I piled it on. (I used a cheap e.l.f. angled contour brush.)

This looks awesome! I have ipsy, and I had two birchbox subscriptions but ended up cancelling one this month because all the ever send me is eyeliner and anti-aging cream. I am missing make up BIG TIME! I just subscribed with your code. I am loving that gloss and the nail polish…

I hope they all stay this amazing!

So which would you pick, Glossybox or Sample Society? I already get birchbox .

Ahh, that is hard. I think GLOSSYBOX!
