Beauty Box 5
Cost: $12/month.
Ships To: The lower 48 United States and Canada via the Postal Service.
Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription service that delivers a sample box of all things beauty. Each box contains 4 – 5 samples of a variety of makeup, skin care, fragrances and everything in between! Boxes are $12/month if you do a month-to-month subscription, however, I subscribed a while back when they had a crazy deal that brought the cost of an annual subscription down to $6.58/month.
Beauty Box 5 ships via DHL Global Mail and took 8 days to arrive to me. It seems like a lot consider if only came from Kentucky, but that’s kind of what I expect with DHL so I don’t anticipate anything to arrive quickly. If it does it’s just a bonus!
Beauty Box 5 had released a spoiler for this month’s box so I knew about one of the items I could see in the first look and the other looked pretty fabulous!
The July 2014 Beauty Box 5 theme was “Defining Moments” and included items to help you celebrate the events that made you the amazing women you are. Here is what was inside:
~Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara ($7.99): Ahh, this mascara (just like that pur~lisse) is everywhere! It’s the 3rd or 4th on of these mascaras I have received in the past month or so. It’s not that I don’t like it, because I do, but I don’t need three tubes of it. I will likely end up gifting it to a friend.
~HASK Argan Oil Intense Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment ($2.49): This packet actually has two uses in it, but I am pretty sure I will only get one use out of it. I just can’t ever seen to properly save packets like this in the shower. They end up leaking, spilling or getting water inside. Any tips??
~Body Drench Candy Licious Lips (Grape Lollipop) ($3.99): Love it! It smells amazing, works well and I am a lip balm addict so what’s not to love? I see that they also offer Cotton Candy and Red Licorice flavors which I feel like I must try now as well.
~Anna Naturals Glowing Mama Walnut Face & Body Scrub (~$2): I thought this was okay. Not amazing, but not awful either. It’s a vegan scrub and it smells daily good, but I just wasn’t overly excited.
~Starlooks Lip Liner (Tickle Me Pink) ($12): Before I started getting subscription boxes I don’t think I realized that people still wore lip liner. I’m sure I had seen it at Sephora or whatever, but I never paid attention to it. Anyway, I am going to watch some tutorials and see what I am missing out on!
All totaled I came up with a value of $28.47 for the July 2014 Beauty Box 5. As usual it was well over the $12 cost of the box and WAY more than the $7 or so I pay for it! Even if I only use the mask and lip balm that gets me to what I paid for the box right away! And really, had I not already received that mascara from other boxes I would have been excited for it. It’s not BB5’s fault I get a bunch of other boxes!
Do you subscribe to Beauty Box 5? What’d you get in your box this month? I know there are usually some variations, but (as usual) I am not familiar with the specifics this month. If you are interested in subscribing or want to check out more, click here.
What I see a lot of people do with any sample that comes in packets is find some reusable screw top containers – like contact lens cases, or other sample jars, or old eyeshadow containers, things like that – and then squeeze them out and label them – voila! Multi use and safe from the elements!
Why didn’t I think of this? Seriously. People are so smart.
I don’t think some of these companies expect people to get so many different boxes 😉 So they send their product to them all so everyone gets one. LOL they obviously don’t know us.
I occasionally do use lip liner but not as a liner per say but more as a base. I will put it all over my lips and then gloss over. Normally if I’m “dressing” up or going to the theater or something. I feel like I can then get more of a color but I only really need to carry my gloss with me and I can reapply that without a mirror so no need to stand in the long bathroom line. Dr Pepper chapstick goes great over all liners FYI LOL
Ha! That is good to know! So def leopard isn’t a lip liner event I am guessing?
Where’s the free box offer?
Sorry. I just updated the title. It actually ended on 6/30.
With the hair treatment, it helps to open up the packet slightly at the top and close it up with a paperclip or something similar whenever you’re done with your shower (make sure you clean the part where the liquid came onto the packet). Depending on your length of hair, you shouldn’t have to use very much of it as it spreads pretty well. Hope that sort of helps. 🙂
Thank you!!!!!
I like to put those annoying sample packets in little plastic travel bottles – I get way more uses that way. Hope that helps! P.S. I love your blog by the way, you are my main go-to source for subscription box spoilers and reviews
Aww thank you! And thanks for the tip!
One thing to consider may be mini (or any) binder clips to reseal your packet samples – especially for a packet this big! Just put a clip on once you receive these samples (that are large enough for several uses) and then when you’re in the shower the clip will be there, ready to use.
Btw, I got the same box, except instead of lipliner, I got a black eyeliner from Starlooks and my lip balm was in the scent “Peppermint stick”
Everyone is so smart. Here I’ve been annoyed for years and everyone has all these trucks.
*tricks. Not trucks.
I got the same box as you except my lip balm was ‘Lemon drop’, and I got Miss Jessie’s multicultural curl styling lotion rather than lip liner.
Ohh, how was the lemon drop? That sound fabulous!
I like it a lot! It smells like lemon bars/pie. 🙂
I loved this box. I have a system that works for me to only use part of a packet. I only clip the very end off of a corner when I open the packet. I then use binder clips (they come in several sizes) to clip the corner closed. Usually I don’t even bother to fold over the open edge as the right size binder clip seals the opening completely. I then stand them up in a small Rubbermaid type of container. I keep a folded up paper towel in the bottom for any drips from the shower. I also keep all the small currently in use tubes and other skin and hair care samples in here. This way I am able to use everything up before adding more to the container.
So smart! And I love the little container idea to keep it all on!
For foil packets I get these little dollar store tubs that are clear and have a white lid… you get 10 for $1 and they are perfect to get your full use out of the products!!
Genius!!!!!
I got the kind of the same as you. I got the lime gumdrop chap stick and like it. Also I got a sample of H2O shampoo (but not the conditioner which is weird to me) and I also got a nail polish, instead of the lip liner and scrub.
I love the chap stick, but think it is a little watery, but I still would buy all of them, but I don’t think they are worth the dollar amount compared to burts bees. LOL.
You know I also always think it’s odd to just get shampoo and no conditioner! I feel like you need to test them together!
The Hask deep conditioner is really thick and shouldn’t leak. I use my IKEA bag clips on the multi use foil packs. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70083252/
