August 2014 Zoobean – 6 Year-Old Boy

Zoobean, who kindly sent me this package to review, is a monthly subscription service which helps you build your individual child’s literacy with remarkable children’s books and apps selected just for him or her.  You may select from a monthly book delivery service (from $9.99/month) that gives you one hardcover or paperback book each month, along with an app recommendation + literacy guides or a digital service option (from $2.99/month) and receive weekly personalized app + book recommendations that come with literacy guides.

This package is for L who is 6 years old.  I also received one for WB, but I haven’t done a review on that one yet.

The Package

Zoobean ships via UPS Mail Innovations.  It arrives in general the same amount of time that Media Mail used to take.

The Book

The Incredible Book Eating Boy by Oliver Jeffers

L received “The Incredible Book Eating Boy” by Oliver Jeffers (which is selling for about $10 on Amazon right now) this month.  It’s about a boy, who instead of reading books to learn, eats books to get smart!    But you can’t eat books forever and eventually he has to figure out how else you can learn from books!  Totally cute book that I have never heard of before.

The App

Hodge Podge
Hotch Potch

Our Zoobean selected App this month was “Hotch Potch” and was developed by The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.  I personally have never been to Colonial Williamsburg, but my Dad loves that place.   It’s only $0.99 so I am going to get it and see what L thinks.  If nothing else my Dad will enjoy it!

The Zoobean plan I received is $16.95, which includes the monthly hardcover book + the digital reading guide + the app selection and app companion.  If you are interested in just the Digital Service, it’s $2.99/month and you will receive a weekly email that includes an expert created Reading Guide or App Companion along with a book or app recommendation.  And then you can pick up the book at the bookstore or borrowing it from your local library!

What do you think of Zoobean?  If you are interested in signing up or just want to learn more, click here! And don’t forget to use the coupon code “SAVVYMUSING” to receive $10 off of an annual Zoobean Expert membership or “SMARTMUSING” which will save you 15% on any purchase!
