SundaySentiments

You know the drill, I am stealing Jen’s Sunday Sentiments button and idea and making it mine tonight!

~Our weekend was fairly boring.  Well L’s wasn’t since he went up-north ;).  We slept in, got coffee, watched football and that’s seriously about it.  B skipped his Tough Mudder in favor of homework, but did make it to the Lions game today.  Oh, WB did learn to drive this weekend, so that was big news.  He can finally reach the pedals so now L doesn’t have to drive him around anymore!  And Baxter is happy to have his seat back ;).

Learning to drive!
Learning to drive!

~I am in the process of separating my posts into two sections (I’m really making a subdomain but whatever) – subscription box stuff and non-subscription box stuff. I am hoping that way it will be easier to find stuff and if you don’t want to scroll through subscription box reviews, you won’t have to anymore. I’ll post links when I have it all figured out, but it shouldn’t be too much longer.

~Don’t forget that today is the last day to enter the Sunday Funday Giveaway and the September 2014 PopSugar Must Have Box Giveaway ends tomorrow!  I haven’t decided what my next giveaway will be, but I am always open to ideas.

~Anyone watching Big Brother tonight?  We don’t know who is final HOH yet right?  I man guessing Derrick is going to win this season, but I guess you never really know?  ETA: Wait is this not on tonight?  Why can’t I get this show straight?

~Has anyone gotten the new iPhone yet? What do you think?? I haven’t seen them in person yet, but I am dying to know if the screen on the 6 Plus is big enough to read on?  Like not just read Facebook, but an actual book.  You think?

Too big? Not big enough?
Too big? Not big enough?

~L has decided that he is going to ask for an XBOX or PS4 for Christmas from Santa.  Which is better?  He wants to play Minecraft on it (of course) and I want to give Santa the heads up so he can start shopping for deals now!

~I was browsing LUSH last night and saw that they had some new “self-preserving” products.  Anyone know what this is all about?  Does it change the formula of it at all?  I have to run to the mall this week and was planning on stopping into LUSH for more Ocean Salt so which do I want?  I don’t generally have trouble using it before it expires, but it has been know to happen.

~I have been breaking out like crazy lately and it’s driving me crazy.  Does anyone have some super secret tips to stop breakouts? There must be some sort of mask someone knows about with ingredients from your kitchen that just works amazing.  Anyone??

That’s all for now!  See you in the morning!

Try tea tree oil for the breakouts. It works great for me!

    1. Jennifer

      Thanks!

The Ps4 is definitely the better console, it has better graphics and generally games are released on it sooner, sometimes even exclusively! Most people would consider it the future.

    1. Jennifer

      Thank you!

My acne ceased to be a problem when I dumped high-carb food. Sugar, rice, bread, pasta, most snacks ever created, processed food, citrus fruits and bananas. Boom, gone. Carbs mean increased insulin in the blood, and that sets off a horrible chain of events with the worst being hormone increases from the ovaries. It also makes you bloat and gain wait.

    1. Jennifer

Honestly you are probably totally on to something. A few more glasses of water, more sleep and less crappy foods would do wonders for me.

Loooong time lurker, first comment 🙂
I LOVE your blog! It is seriously on my go to list everyday.
I love my xbox 360 so I am biased but I would say get L the xbox.
As far as acne goes I have suffered off and on for years. I recently had gone back to the dermatologist and he prescribed a generic form of bactrim to take orally as well as a sulfur based face wash and another type of topically ointment. These have worked great!!

    1. Jennifer

      Thanks for the comment!!!!

And I will check out the recs!!

N keep saying he wants a PS4 or and XBOXone. I know nothing about either of them but he can babble a whole bunch of stats. LOL he looks them up on youtube for reviews. Since my parents are getting him an Ipad and we already have a PS3 I think I’m going to hold off on it though and stear him towards the new Disney Infinity set and a basketball goal. 😉 I’m a good Santa helper hehe
I have been breaking out too and I never break out so it is driving me crazy. I have no idea what is going on.
No BB tonight all that is left is the finale on Wednesday. I know who won parts 1 and 2 since I peaked. I mean how could I not. LOL

    1. Jennifer

We don’t have a PS3 so I feel like this was bound to happen eventually! He’s clearly been talking to his friends at school about this. Although, I would rather have one big gift from Santa than 10 littles ones….

I love LUSH! When they made things more “self-preserving”, basically they removed the minimal amounts of synthetic preservatives they had and replaced them with natural preservatives like honey and sea salt, and reduced the water content so that the products could last longer and discourage growth of bacteria. I bought the newly self preserving mask of magnamity and I love it! They just last longer and don’t need refrigeration. That mask has the longest shelf life of the masks in the store I think. Just an FYI, that Oct 1 they release the Halloween collection (at least they do at the store by me). They have a Harry Potter like theme this year with glittery pumpkins and things and I want it all :).

    1. Jennifer

I should probably delay my visit to the store until the 1st huh? That makes the most sense…………

      1. Jessica

If you want to check the holiday stuff out I would :). I’m going that day to mine. I also read the Christmas collection will be out soon after, but that was for the UK stores. I’ll ask at my store here about that when I stop in.

Also, I had the IPhone 6 delivered (I preordered it through Verizon) on Friday. I love it! The screen size of this version is perfect and it fits into all my purse pockets. I thought the plus would be too big for me, but then I also have an IPad mini that I use for most emails and websites.

  7. Squinj

I have read in the 5s without any problems at all. Also, I have an iPad mini and that is what I do most of my reading on. It is the perfect size for me to lay in bed and hold with one hand and for me to stick in my purse. It is what I prefer to read on, but when I don’t have it I read on my iphone. I like to read.

    1. Jennifer

We have a mini, but it’s so full of kids games that I don’t even think I would be able to get a book on it. LOL. I was hoping that my phone would eventually be able to do both! My 5 is just too small to read a full book on right now. I am getting too old!

  8. Kel

I have been reading but haven’t commented in ages. You know, it’s the 4 kids 5 and under thing lol.

I haven’t been to the derm since March (2 months postpartum at that point) knock on wood. I needed to look into what I could use on my sensitive skin while nursing besides my perscribed azelaic acid. 2 words: GLYCOLIC ACID. Derived naturally from came sugar and used for acne, scars, wrinkles etc. It super exfoliates your skin so it sloughs off the dead skin. Read the reviews. Amazing. You can buy a basic 10 percent cream and wash and use the cream every other night to start. My main thing that has worked are glycolic acid peels. I started 30 percent at home once a week and worked my way up from 1 min to 5 min to make sure I don’t burn myself and so my sensitive skin can tolerate it.

I never had “bad” acne just a few small pimples here and there or 1 big hormonal cyst 1-2 times a month and that has stopped them as well as my diet. And a mask once a week of benonite clay (check Amazon reviews this is amazing as well.) I love tea tree oil but I use sparingly, it can super dry out your skin and also irritate it if you have sensitive skin like me.

    1. Jennifer

I was thinking about you the other day and wondering how you were doing! You have your hands quite full! But in a totally good way!

      It’s really just 1-2 big / painful ones. I can’t stand it!

      1. Kel

That’s how mine were…just 1-2 cysts a month, I never had acne all over. Hormonal and genetics I think. Also, the derm can give them a cortsione shot and they are gone by the next day vs weeks and insurance usually covers it. But yea so far my peels and glycolic acid have controlled my skin to stop that crap, even 1-2 times a month 🙂 Let’s see how my skin is when I wean in Dec lol.

  9. Amanda

I use bliss toner and give it out to my family and friends. I also switch out my face wash on a regular basis. I heard that switching brands is good for your face and make it more effective? But I always keep the same toner.

  10. Kel

I forgot to add to that (lengthy) comment….glycolic acid can be drying so I use a organic cleanser and mosturizer that are very gentle on my skin to make sure I am not overdrying it aka creating more breakouts. It’s all a balancing act! Can you tell I am super passionate about skincare and makeup ? 😉 I do tons of research before trying products and I commit to them instead of constantly switching lol. Oh and I use a witch hazel gentle toner.

I also have switched to all organic makeup and nothing has fragrance as well.

  11. Jillian P

I never had acne until I was an adult (so aggravating) and have tried a bunch of different things. I finally found a dermatologist I love that came up with a solution the other didn’t. Mine wasn’t horrible but I would get 1 or 2 bad cysts a month always like clockwork around the same time. I am now on spironolactone which works miracles if it’s a hormone issue … But does absolutely nothing if it’s caused by something else…

  12. PA Anna

You got me curious about LUSH especially about the Halloween and Christmas product line. I have a store right by me!

    1. Jessica

I follow a bunch of UK blogs, and that’s how I saw the Halloween and Christmas products. They had a blogger launch party there and were able to take home and try most of the new items. I don’t want to be rude and post another blog name here, but if you put in LUSH Halloween 2014 you should be able to see it all. I already told my fianc? that we need to go that day lol! The people at my local store actually told me about the Oct 1 date and the Harry Potter like theme. I think their holiday stuff sells out quick from what I’ve heard.

      1. Jennifer

OMG, no, feel free to post the link! I want to see!!!!

          1. Jennifer

            Thank you!

I would probably go with the Xbox.. I did read the other day that Microsoft bought Mojang (the company that makes Minecraft) for a couple billion dollars. So with Xbox being a Microsoft Company, I don’t know how that will affect Minecraft. Also, Xbox makes a whole lot of games that my 7 year old son enjoys, and you can usually find them cheaper that PS4 games! Plus we’re just a Nintendo/Xbox family!

    1. Jennifer

I would be so upset if we got a PS4 and then they stopped offering Minecraft. That would not be good at all!

  14. jamie

murad acne clearing face wash (blue label) has been amazing for me. i use it at night with my clarisonic, followed by the murad acne clearing solution and then a night time moisturizer (something with ceramides and AHA in it) and it does wonders! in the morning i use purpose face wash and shishedo day moisturizer and i’ve had a lot less break outs than normal!

    1. Jennifer

I will check that out today!

  15. Laura R

Microsoft bought the parent company of minecraft and Microsoft owns Xbox so I’d go with that. Though honestly, I’d go with the Wii u if you don’t have one since it is awesome and Nintendo always has a bunch of kid friendly games. And they’re releasing a bunch in the coming months.

    1. Jennifer

We have a Wii, but not a Wii U. You can’t play Minecraft on a Wii U can you? It’s all about Minecraft. Seriously. LOL!!!

      1. Laura R

I thought I saw minecraft on the eshop but apparently not, and it seems like they’re not planning on making one for the wiiu either. I don’t even get minecraft. My nieces play it and they showed me their whatever things and it looked like first gen doom. But building things instead of shooting. Lol

  16. Chris

XBox has more military and shoot’em up games, so maybe see what B would play more on? I have never liked the Quality of the XBox line from Microsoft (so like many of their other products), but Sony has always done well by me. PS4 for sure. (Though with the PS3 having the same games released for it as for the PS4, I’m not sure why you would upgrade now………though, explaining that to a 6 or 7 year old might not go so well.

    1. Jennifer

I think B would prefer the PS4, but I don’t really know? We don’t have a PS3 so it’d be our first system purchase. Would I want to just get the PS4?

      1. Chris

Unless you get a really, really, really good deal on the PS3 (Like $100), yeah–PS4. If you can snag it on the after Thankgiving sales and stack it with ebates or fat wallet or something, that should come down a bit in price.

  17. Linda

We have both the PS3 and XBox (we won the XBox). The XBox rarely gets played with. The PS3 doesn’t have a Minecraft disc, but we were able to purchase the game by downloading it for like $20. Lo plays it with no issues. Tough decision.

    1. Jennifer

That is a tough decision. I think I need to have him test them both out at the store and see which controller he likes better???

  18. Rose D.

For the skin, hydration is key. But also, it helps to stick with products. It can take your skin time to get used to things, and then every time you switch, it will cause a flare up. It is why I don’t subscribe to any of the beauty/product boxes. Find what works, and stick with it.

    And stay hydrated.

  19. Lisa D

Xbox has way more features then PS3 or 4. Plus you have the Kinect as well- and if you purchase a new PC- though I know you are a MAC person but L might need a regualr PC at some point for school the Desktop PC will link to the Xbox- which is Microsoft. Now there is the Xbox One which is awesome but we have the regular Xbox with Kinect.

I would say Xbox- the kids would enjoy the Kinect for sure. Our Grandkids do.

    1. Jennifer

I am a total Mac. L uses a mac laptop too. LOL. I do think he uses a PC at school though.

  20. Kristin

My son’s favorite has always been X-box & surprisingly he still has the last model not the xbox one. He still plays it and can get netflix on his TV with it. He’s now almost 20 (insert cry – I’m old) But other than one previous model that had the red ring of death – yes it is called that – it was fixed and he received a new one. I think he just played it too much! It’s now in his room and the Wii is hooked up to our family room TV – my kidlets both bought their own consoles on Boxing day sales. Black Friday might be Santa’s best choice to go shopping

    1. Jennifer

Yes, hopefully Santa can snag a deal online. Santa doesn’t like getting up too early 😉

  21. Mallory B

My hubby just got the iPhone 6+ and I personally have to use both hands to hold it comfortably. I’d say you could definitely read a book on it, but I’d feel so weird making an actual call, considering it’s the size of my face!

    1. Jennifer

I held it today at the apple store. I never really talk only phone so I could be okay with it.

  22. Miranda

Retin A is really good for clearing up acne. The bonus is that it increases collagen (less wrinkles) and promotes cell turnover which can help remove sunspots.

I agree with the other commenter, too, that switching products frequently probably confuses the heck out of your skin.

    1. Jennifer

Oh I am sure it does. The worst part is that it broke out worse when I started using one consistently!!! Maybe it was punishing me for not trying it sooner.

Do they sell Retin A over the counter yet?

      1. Miranda

Retin A is still by prescription, but they have a generic brand so it only costs $10 with insurance. And the tube lasts for lots of months. You can even use it on your chest to improve the appearance of wrinkles there. Btw – I don’t work for them 🙂

  23. Jenn

My 13 year old and I both use Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. I bought it at Ulta and it really helps reduce redness and shrink the pimple. Seriously, I’m too old for acne! So annoying.

    1. Jennifer

Ohh, I remember using that in the past and liking it!!

  24. Katrina

I’m a bit late to the PS vs XB discussion, but honestly they’re both good consoles and it comes down to personal preference. I’d go with whichever one more of his friends have. Multiplayer games – like Minecraft – aren’t usually cross-platform, so it’s a lot more fun if you already have people you know to play with.

    1. Jennifer

I think my husband likes PS more, but I think Xbox might be better idea for Minecraft….
