Back to Two Questions today…..

~Do you recline your seat on airplanes? There have been a few stories in the news lately about passengers getting into fights because of someone reclining their seat and then the person behind them getting pissed. I generally do not recline my rest, but that’s mainly because I fly with WB and it’s not like I have time to kick back and relax anyway. I do get mildly annoyed when the person in front of me reclines their seat without mentioning it, but I feel like that’s my problem. If your seat has the ability to recline and you can get a little more comfortable on an airplane, why not? But maybe just look back at the person behind you and make sure you aren’t going to make them spill their coffee all over when you throw your seat back.

~Have you ever taken nude pictures? Obviously this one has been all over the news with all the naked celebrity picture leaks happening in the past few weeks. But let’s face it, if I looked like Kate Upton I would be taking some too.  I saw this article about a twitter survey (very scientific obviously) that 89% of Cosmo readers who responded had taken nude pictures. I found that to be super high, but I don’t know, maybe it’s right? It seems that is just about what Snapchat is meant for. Since my mom reads here (well she’s probably stopped reading this post by now), I won’t go into details, but hopefully some of you will. LOL!

These should be interesting today! I am looking forward to hearing everyone’s answers.

    1. I have only been on a plane once in my life! And it was a extremely long flight to Gotemba, Japan. I think I leaned my seat back, but I really can’t remember. I was a newbie and was so nervous the entire time. I didn’t take the person sitting behind me any consideration. I suppose that was pretty terrible of me.

    2. I have never taken nor sent nude pictures. If I were married I would probably consider it. I remember back in highschool that girls would take topless photos and send them to their current flame of the month. (Who was usually a jock, and usually sent the pics out to all his friends after the relationship soured.) I never really paid much attention to it until I got a picture message one day it and was a topless photo of my cousin. I sent it to my Aunt who flipped sh*t. Cell phones have really changed the game. It’s just so easy and available. People don’t realize that huge impact something so personal that goes viral can have on a person.

    1. Jennifer

Cell phones have changed the game! I am glad they didn’t have them when I was in school!

I think it’s quite sad that all the news seems to focus on is how it was somehow wrong to take the nude picture in the first place and not on the people who broke the law by hacking into their accounts. It’s like they aren’t even meant to be held accountable for it or even a little bit sorry for invading people’s privacy.

I’m with you, if your seat can recline who am I to tell you it shouldn’t because it might bother me. 🙂

    1. Jennifer

I totally agree. Why can’t people take pictures and expect them to stay private? They didn’t release them. The person(s) they sent them too didn’t release them. Someone STOLE them. Not fair!

    1. No. I normally fly with my son so I do not decline. Plus with how crowded planes are I do not want to make the people behind me even angrier (because I already have the squirmy, anxious baby). And I DESPISE when people do it to me when I have my kid with me because he suddenly see that as time to mess with the person in front of us. I do EVERYTHING I can to keep him from doing it. But he is a year old and just overly curious. But on the same note if people are polite about it and their head isn’t in my lap I don’t tend to mind. I have spent an 8 hour flight with some guys seat reclined ALL THE WAY back so I had to fall out of my chair to get into the aisle anytime I wanted to get up. I couldn’t even say anything to him because he didn’t speak English or German. >.<

    2. Not going into details. But my husband is deployed so "tease" pictures are taken and he gets surprised at his port calls every few months, nothing overly explicit but still enough to embarass me if they do make it public. I see it as morale lol.

    1. Jennifer

Ha! You are helping to serve the country too by keeping his morale high! I totally get it!!!!!

And I hear you on the flying with a little one. We are already a mess on planes, no need for me to recline my seat to piss people off even more. My kid is already trying to play peek-a-boo and talk to everyone anyway!

Snapshot is popular with highschool students. I keep explaining to my son that there is nothing to stop someone from snapping a picture of the photo. Technology gives parents new things to worry about.

Does anyone remember the good old days of Polaroids? I would be in the majority in the Cosmo survey.

    1. Jennifer

This is totally true. You can easily snap a picture of a snapchat!

  5. Jenny

Oh my you are controversial today 😉 LOL I don’t think I normally recline my seat. I don’t fly alot so I really have to think but I usually just sit in my little world and try to leave everyone alone. I too get a little frustrated when the person in front of me reclines their seat since there is so little space anyway why would you think you are allowed to take up my space and give yourself more but with that if maybe you want to go back one notch so you aren’t so straight that is very different from when you go all the way back.
Hmm should we really answer this one haha. Can’t say I haven’t but it has been awhile since really who would want to see this now. LOL well ok I know M would be over the moon if I randomly sent him a nudie (uh is that a word?) You know it was so much easier back in the day when you had a Polaroid that just printed the pic right at home for you and there was no cloud for people to hack into. haha

    1. Jennifer

I think nudie is a word. LOL! I don’t even know that I ever owned a polaroid???? You should get snapchat.

      1. Jenny

So I just joined snapchat. How does it work? What do I use it for besides nudies. LOL

        1. Jennifer

Ha. I think that’s about it.

  6. PA Anna

I forgot to add not anymore because of the children. They are always looking at photos on my camera and phone.

  7. SQUINJ

Yes I recline my seat on airplanes. I’ve never really thought about the person behind me, but some times I feel a little claustrophobic when the person in front of me reclines theirs. I think on international flights everybody and their flying penguin reclines their seats. You walk around and everybody is dead to the world. I wish I was rich and could afford first class. That looks like the way to fly!

Nope, no nude pics. First off – I haven’t met a hott guy to send pics to… I suppose that would be helpful. Secondly – it seems a mite bit dumb in this day and age of everything you think is private getting leaked on the internet somehow… you take a nude pic, and your boyfriend gets pissed and you’re next weeks instagram… Or someone hacks your comp, or your parents happen to be visiting and glance at your phone…

    1. Jennifer

I have flown first class a few times and it is the way to go! I never want to have to pay for it, but those free upgrades are nice.

  8. emiie

Reclining seem to be a hot issue right now. It made me more aware of the issue since it never really bothered me. I remember one incident this person was virtually on my lap but I never said anything since really s/he paid for that seat. So I kind of expect if I recline to have the same privilege but I will definitely make sure the tray is not being used when I do choose to recline my seat.

As for 89% wow that is high. I expect that statistic is biased by their sample size : Age. But yeah if I had Upton’s body maybe I’ll be inclined to but …..still probably not.

    1. Jennifer

I couldn’t even imagine getting in a fight about reclining your seat on a plane. I guess I kind of just expect people to do it??

  9. Blair

The first time I ever took pictures….they ended up on the internet as revenge when we broke up (sophomore in college).. I stumbled across a message in my “other” messages on Facebook saying that my pictures were linked to my Facebook and asked if I knew about them. Of course this was a year or two after the fact when I found this message. I think they were on a site that got shut down because I could never find them but had heard of a site that pictures were posted for revenge on them. I haven’t learned my lesson i guess though :/

    1. Jennifer

Whoever posted them is a jerk!

  10. Kelsey

    1. Hell yeah I recline my seat. I paid a zillion dollars to be crammed in a tin tube, I shall definitely be relaxing. I usually pay the extra to sit in a “wide leg room” aisle so I never notice when the person is front of me is exercising their comfort right.

    2. Wellllllllll………..yes lol. I’m sure you don’t need/want more details than that, but yes I’ve taken a nude selfie or 10 hahaha.

    1. Jennifer

      BAHAHA! “or ten”.

    2. Kayla

I wish there was a like button for this comment. “Or ten” lol!!!

  11. Brianna

I think they should lock the seats so you can’t recline on flights 3 hours or less. I fly about three times a year with a baby/toddler because all of our family lives in the far reaches of the continent. There is so little room, and when someone reclines, they take up half of it. I never recline on short flights because it’s pointless and rude. When I flew to Dublin? Different story.

I have a few “boudoir” pics. I assume a lot of people get those professionally because there are about 15 photography studios in Chicago that specialize in boudoir. I think it would be too weird to have a stranger taking sexy pics for you.

    1. Jennifer

I wouldn’t mind a seat lock on 3 hour or less fights!

  12. Jillian

Wow! I guess I didn’t realize that there was such a frenzy over seat reclining. I have always felt like they don’t even go back that far to begin with, but maybe my depth perception is horrible… I always recline mine a little bit for two reasons- 1) the chairs feel SO upright to me and its uncomfortable, and 2) usually the person in front of me ends up doing it so it re-evens out the space. I’ll be flying Saturday so I guess I’ll have to consider this!

    1. Jennifer

It didn’t seen to be a big deal before. But it’s been all over the news lately!

  13. Shawna

    1. I’ve never been on plane. Terrified.

    2. Heck yes I take nude pics. Why not? I’m a grown ass woman (in my 30s) and my boobs still look awesome. I have gotten smarter about it – I don’t put my face in them, because you never know when a relationship will go south on you. And I keep all the ones I get, just in case I ever need blackmail (men are a bit more stupid about putting their face in theirs). 😉 Hopefully it never comes to that. Haha.

    1. Jennifer

      I.love.it!! You are awesome!

  14. Beth Rang

I don’t decline my seat, because I know how terrible it feels to have the other person reclining their seat and practically lying in my lap. However, I don’t blame them — I blame the airlines for giving so little thought to design. And I also don’t feel too bad if I accidentally bump someone when they’re reclining. I don’t do it on purpose, and I’ll apologize, but if you’re going to recline into someone else’s space, you take the risk of getting bumped when they need to grab something from under the seat or they need to push their tray down that you’ve now managed to get it stuck tightly between the two seats. This happened on my last flight. The tray was really stuck, so getting it unstuck really bumped the guy reclining in front of me. I apologized, but seriously, it was his own fault, although yes, I suppose I could have waited until they made him get his seat out of the recline position. Since I’d already bumped him whilst discovering the tray was stuck, it was better to finish the job and then let him go unbumped for a while.

I think the big fights are because of thoughtlessness and selfishness. We’re all in the same boat on a plane trying to get by with very little space. Everyone else around you paid for their space too (or their employer did.) We can try to work together to make it more comfortable, or at least be tolerant.

I admit I do get annoyed at parents who let their kids kick me over and over again! I know kids will be kids, but some parents do try to keep their kids under control and I appreciate that even when it doesn’t totally stop the kicking (thanks!), but other parents are in their own zone and ignore their kids. Of course, that happens everywhere not just airplanes, right?

  15. Jody

I will be the first person to say that I get sooooo mad when the person in front of me reclines without looking or asking if I mind. I am tall, and have long legs, so the second they recline, my limited space gets smaller and I am uncomfortable. I have been known to keep my legs firmly pressed against the seat in front of me so they cannot recline. I didn’t even know that the knee-defender was a thing until the news broke — it almost made me wonder if it was a marketing idea. If so, it’s working, because I’m seriously considering buying them for my next trip. Haters are gonna hate me — sorry, but if we all pay for our tickets, we should all get the same amount of space.

And question 2 — never did it, never think I will — I’m too paranoid about the internet and what can get out there these days! Even if you take it on a polaroid, someone can scan it and email it around the world. (Now, that said, no one would really want to do that to my pictures, but the thought of it makes me cringe!)

  16. Lana

Sure, nude pictures. On a digital camera, not on a cell phone. I’m much more likely to lose my cell phone which I carry with me every day – it might not even take hacking if I drop it on the ground 😉 I think the second you send a pic to someone else, though, it’s now theirs…and whether they should or not, they can do whatever they want with that picture. If I give a nude pic to someone, I assume it’s going to be seen by more than just that person. Should it be? No – but that’s the risk you run putting it out there.

  17. Mel

I do not recline my seat for this reason. When I flew with my kids as a lap baby because we were flying a lot [yes, I do know they are safer in seats, but sometimes you have to fly to see sick family and you fly as lap kiddos], we always ended up in the last row (non-recline-able) because you cannot check in ahead of time with a lap baby. Then the person in front would recline their seat into the face of my baby and I could not recline my seat. It was awful. And they were terrible people who refused to put their seat up. I vowed never to do that to someone again.

  18. Mrs. L

I pay good money for my seat on an airplane. That seat reclines. Am I not allowed to use a function I’ve paid for because the person behind me has kids? Has really long legs? Or has some other reason they don’t want the person in front of them to recline? Wow, kids screaming bother me but I don’t make them NOT get on planes because of it. Women who wear a lot of cologne or guys who don’t shower also bother me but again, I take that risk flying. When you fly coach or cheap etc, you have to realize that there are going to be plus and minuses. That is why airlines offer seats where you pay even more to have more leg room, free alcohol, seats that turn into beds, etc. Southwest charges a premium to let you on first so you can grab the better seats. When I get an aisle seat I realize that I will have to get up sometimes multiple times during a flight because the person sitting at the window has to use the restroom. If I’m the last person on a Southwest flight I realize I may have to check my carry on, sit in a non reclining seat, and sit in the seat next to the bathroom (so. not. fun.) etc.

My “short” flight might be the last leg of a 24 hour flight day. I might be flying to my mothers funeral. I might have just had a cast off and that reclining helps my leg pain* A million different reasons that make my short flight something that I just need those few hours to shut out the world and relax. Because it’s a short flight and it might inconvenience YOU I shouldn’t recline? What makes your inconvenience more important than mine?

Flying is not a right, it’s a privilege. You have to play by the rules of the airlines and the parameters they set up. If they allow seats to recline, you need to deal with it.

That being said I never “throw” back my seat to recline it. I rarely put my seat back all the way (honestly I don’t really like to sleep on planes, I’m not the best flyer) so that might be why I have never been asked to not recline but I would try to accommodate a person if so asked. I have invested in “noise cancelling” headphones so screaming babies really don’t bother me. I take allergy pills before flying so that one woman’s over indulging of Chanel No. 5 doesn’t put me in a sneezing fit. I turn the sound down on any electronic devices I’m using so that beeps, sound from movies etc, don’t bother others passengers.

I try to be as courteous a flyer as I can, but if I need to recline my seat I will.

*On my recent flight to DC the young man next to me was a baseball player that had recently undergone knee surgery. He was a wiggly mess trying to get comfortable on that long flight. He apologized ahead of time and I had no problem sitting next to him while he moved about during the flight trying to ease his pain. And yeah he had his seat fully reclined.

    1. Jennifer

I feel bad for tall people on flights! There just isn’t enough room. Even with the bigger seats! That’s one time I like being short.

I wasn’t even thinking about it being the last leg of a long flight. You make an excellent point and I agree. Recline away!

  19. JD

What? No one else did nudie pics while relining in an airplane seat? That was just me?

(Just kidding of course…you would have heard about the passengers demanding that the plane be landed immediately to have me removed!)

    1. Jennifer

Ha!! I bet someone has done that! People get crazy on airplanes!

  20. Kathy

I don’t recline. I think it’s rude, and they don’t go back enough to make it much more comfortable anyway. Why piss someone off and cause tension that you can’t escape from for the next five hours?

As for the nude pics…no one wants to see that! 🙂

  21. I prefer to sleep sitting up straight. seriously. I can take a nap in an upright position just about anywhere.

No nudies. That’s what facetime is for. GEEEZ.

    1. Jennifer

Facetime? Ahh, that is a big computer screen that someone could happen to see!

      1. Brandy

You can FT on your phone. I say this like I spent two years away from husband and was always flashing him. Totally never happened. As soon as we got the kids in bed I was like later dude. So bad.

        1. Jennifer

I forgot about the phone FT!

  22. Hannah

    1. I don’t recline my seat back on flights because I know I won’t be able to sleep in the seat no matter what I do. I don’t like it when people recline, but that’s probably because I’ve never seen them politely ask or give a warning to the person behind them.
    2. I haven’t seen much on the news about this, but that’s probably because I avoid listening to it when it comes up because I know it’ll make me mad. I love Jennifer Lawrence & I imagine she’s handling it very well & probably will make it a joke someday. I couldn’t imagine what I would do if anyone ever invaded my privacy like that.

  23. Lauren

I usually don’t recline unless I look back and the person behind me is reclined as well. However I just got a gastric neurostimulator placed in my stomach this past year and when I flew on an airplane a few weeks ago it was incredibly painful to sit and not recline. I had two flights and on the second one I just had to recline. Luckily there was nobody behind me but even if there was I’d have had to do it!
