Two Question Tuesday

Disclosure: If you make a purchase through the links posted below, I may receive a small compensation. Read the full disclosure.

Two (easy) Questions Today:

~What book are you reading right now? I am still reading Big Little Lies and am really liking it so far.  I just learned that there is a new book in the Shopaholic series coming out soon which I had no clue about!  I thought that series was just done.  Those books are such fun and easy reads that I will totally be picking up “Shopaholic  to the Stars” when it comes out next month.

~What’s your Starbucks order? Or if you aren’t into coffee / tea, what is your go to beverage? So I know there are all these secret Starbucks drinks out there, however, I have no clue how to order them. Fill me in! I generally opt for the Skinny Caramel Macchiato. It’s just good. Totally tastes the same as a regular one if you ask me.  I don’t believe you can get a true Skinny Salted Caramel Mocha (something about the syrup or something?), so I just get no-fat milk and no whip. Now if we are talking about a frappacino, well, all bets are off. Sometimes you just need to go for it. I used to (and kind of still do if I stray from my normal) find ordering at Starbucks to be intimidating. All those drinks and code words and there’s always so many people in line.  But it’s not like they yell at you if you do it wrong, so I shouldn’t be.

Looking forward to hearing everyone’s answers!

I’m currently reading “The Here and Now” by Anna Brashers. I just finished “Fangirl” by Rainbow Rowell and really enjoyed it! Oh and “The Match Maker” by Elin Hilderbrand. A good one too.

I usually just have a diet coke. I’m not a huge coffee fan. But I recently cut out caffeine, so I’m not even drinking diet coke. It’s ice water or lemonade for me 🙂

  2. Nicole A.

I’m finally reading the first book in the Outlander series. I’ve recently become obsessed the show (or Sam Heughan who plays Jamie), so far, so good.

I also made a list of “darker” books I intend to read when it’s not 110 degrees outside. On it, The Silent Wife, Dark Places by Gillian Flynn, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and The Bronze Horseman series (not dark, but still). I’ve literally got about 1000 books sitting on my ipad waiting to be read. Don’t ask me how I find time to read 3-5 books a week, but I manage it somehow.

As far as Starbucks goes, I’m an iced coffee or skinny vanilla latte fan 🙂

    1. Jennifer

How do you find time to read 3-5 books during the week? That is amazing! Maybe if I didn’t watch so much mindless reality tv I’d have time too.

      1. Nicole A.

I think it’s a combination of reading books that aren’t that long, staying up way too late and reading while my mindless tv is on in the background. Outlander is super long and will take me awhile to get through. I’m switching between reading and the audio version while working. Sheesh, I think my inner nerd was just exposed, hahaha!

I was thinking to myself this morning that I’m having a early life crisis. I spend my non-mom time going to concerts and music festivals like Bonnaroo watching Skrillex play til 4AM, then I go home and listen to audiobooks while doing Frozen crafts, hahaha!!

    2. Chrissy

The Silent Wife was *so* over-hyped (in my opinion). I was expecting something “Gone Girl”-esque and it just went on and on and never really wound up anywhere. Plus, the characters were all terrible – it was impossible to care about any of them!

  3. Stacie

I’m guiltily not reading anything at the moment… waiting for book club to pick our next read! I love the shopaholic series, so cute and quick! I didn’t know about the new one either, thanks for the info!
Ha, I thought I was the only one who felt that way about Sbucks. I finally got my order down pat, and I rarely stray, though I get iced or hot depending on the season: venti, nonfat white mocha, no whip.

  4. Avalon

My go-to Caramel Macchiato. This past summer, Caramel Crunch Frap (love). In the Fall, Pumpkin Spice latte. For teas- it has to be the mint-it’s the best.

  5. Laura K

None of us will step foot in a Starbucks (we don’t like how the company is run), and we either grind our own beans or go with Keurig. My fav is the Celestial Seasons unsweetened black tea.

  6. Elizabeth

    1. I just reread the entire Shopaholic series. I had no idea there was a new book coming out. Right now, I’m reading Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke. It’s a super easy read and I’ve read it a million times, but it’s still good.

    2. I usually get a peppermint mocha frappuccino (I only go to Starbucks about 4x a year). I mostly get that because I never know what else to get. I always get in line at Target when it’s empty and as soon as I walk up, there’s 5 people behind me so I stick with my standard order 🙂

  7. leana

Holy smokes, I didn’t know there was a new shopaholic book coming out! That is awesome! I’m reading Gone Girl and it’s really good.

I just get black unsweeted ice tea. Exciting, I know.

    1. Jennifer

      I know. I can’t believe I didn’t know this until yesterday either!

  8. liz

my go to drink is the iced caramel macchiato upside down and some extra caramel drizzle when I need it 🙂 When fall comes around I like the creme brulee latte as well.

    1. Jennifer

What happens when you order it upside-down?

      1. liz

It basically means it is mixed, I don’t like when the milk just sits there and then the shot is poured on top. 🙂

        1. Jennifer

          Interesting!!!!

  9. stephanieklawiter

THE blackberry Mojito tea Lemonade IS SOOO wonderful from starbucks .. yes you have to try it

    1. Jennifer

      That I will!

  10. Jen

I?m on the wait list for Big Little Lies. 🙁
I just picked up Oprah’s What I Know for Sure. I love the insight, even though my love for her if back and forth. (Love her, not so much the corporation). I also just picked up Phillippa Gregory?s The King?s Curse. Every time I think she has run out of people to write about? she finds another one.

My Starbucks orders are so unoriginal, but I like the classics. Either a tall soy chai or a Carmel Frappuccino. I typically go once a week, when I need a pick me up. But I have had the worst cold the last week and I have been there every day! The Chai make my throat feel so much better.

Starbucks also has the My Starbucks Rewards. I have never tried it because it seems so confusing, buying a gift card, keeping a balance on it. Have you had any luck with it? I use Biggby?s rewards, but I don?t love their drinks as much.

    1. Jennifer

When my throat hurts I want to drink the hottest stuff possible too!

I do use the Starbucks rewards. When it gets below $10, we (my husband and I share an account) have it automatically set to reload! It works perfect.

  11. mirta

reading – john lutz pulse from his frank quinn series
its one of my top american fiction writers
drink – pumpkin spice steamer (no coffee)

    1. Jennifer

Tell me, what is a steamer?

        1. Jennifer

          Awesome!

  12. Lindsay R

    1. I am about to start the Divergent series, I haven’t seen the movie yet because I wanted to read the book first.

    2. I am a HUGE Starbucks lover but not for coffee (I just don’t like it) I get Peppermint Hot Chocolate and its the best EVER!

    1. Jennifer

That hot chocolate is SOOOOO good!

    2. Loren

Just wanted to tell you the movie is so different from the book! One of the main characters is just…missing from the movie. & there’s a scene near the end that is 1000% percent different from how it happens in the book…I think people who haven’t read the series might like the movie, but it was weird to me.
Also, not sure if I personally liked the last book. My mom & I started reading the series at the same time, and she still hasn’t finished the last book because she’s not really a fan. I’m interested in checking out the Four collection though!

  13. Chrissy

I just finished “Little Big Lies”. It was the second of her books I’ve read – “What Alice Forgot” is also excellent. I’m in the middle of “Dear Daughter” right now and it is fantastic!

On warm days I order an iced black or green tea – this season the peach green tea lemonade has been sooooo good! During the cold weather I go with a peppermint mocha or salted caramel mocha, skim with whip (one cancels out the other, lol). Can’t wait until it is cold enough for my first mocha!

    1. Jennifer

I will need to check out What Alice Forgot!

      1. Chrissy

It is really great. She’s really skilled at creating multiple, fully-formed characters who all give so much to the story. There isn’t a weak link in any of her books, which is pretty rare.

  14. Erin B

I am (still) reading “Wild”. I need to get on the ball and finish it!

I usually order a skinny vanilla latte or skinny cinnamon dolche latte. Last winter season they had a special Chestnut Praline Latte – SO GOOD. I really hope they bring it back!! I’m looking to try something new next time though because the latte doesn’t have a strong enough coffee flavor for me sometimes. Maybe I’ll try a macchiato. 🙂

    1. Jennifer

Oh I want to try that latte! Let me know if you hear they are bringing it back!

  15. Sara

I’m not reading anything right now 🙁 I would really like to start reading again. I used to read so much, at least one book per month, but for some reason, nothing catches my eye recently. Friends will show me books and I’ll go through the first pages and be like ‘nah’. Mabye it’s just a phase. I hope it’s just a phase.

My go-to Starbucks is a Tall Soy Vanilla Latte. At times, the term ‘Vanillatte’ slips out, but the barista tends to get it. What size do you normally order? Whenever I see a Venti Java Chocolate Chip Frappuccino being passed over the counter, I feel strangely intimidated. Anything Venti intimidates me for some reason. I’ve never seen anybody order a Trenta, either. Personally, my first Starbucks experience was way better than my first Subway experience. I was so lost *lol*

    1. Jennifer

The Venti’s are HUGE!!! I typically go for a grande. If I am getting whip on my frappucino, I get the tall.

  16. Sheena

    1. I’m re-reading the Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R Tolkien.

2.Lately I have been all about the Cinnamon Dolce Latte. It’s pretty good and now you can get Cinnamon Dolce coffee in a K-Cup so you can make it at home for less.

    1. Jennifer

      That sounds pretty good!!!

  17. PA Anna

I can’t wait for the new Shopaholic book. The question is do I wait to see if people are right that it may be in the Oct Popsugar Box or buy it.

    1. I need to go to the library for a light-hearted book. I am reading The Child Catchers by Kathryn Joyce and leafing over my new Rosemary Gladstar books that I bought at the Mother Earth News Festival this weekend. I also pulled out my Stephanie Tourles books because I heard her speak this past weekend and want to try out more of her recipes. I’ve been trying them throughout the year since I heard her speak for the first time last fall. It’s been a rough summer which got me off track, but hearing her speak again makes me want to try out more recipes. I need to put together an order for Mountain Rose Herbs.

    2. I don’t drink coffee. I pay for orders 🙂

  18. Jill

    1. I’m reading The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith which is actually JK Rowling’s pseudonym. I just started it so I can’t say how much I like it yet but the reviews have been positive.

    2. The only time I order a specialty drink from SBUX is during Christmas – Gingerbread Latte. Otheriwse it’s just plain ‘ol black drip coffee for me.

    1. Jennifer

My husband drinks his coffee black and I accidentally drank from his cup the other day instead of mine. OMG. It was like taking a shot. I needed to chase it. LOL!

  19. Lauren

    1. I wish i had time to read anything but us weekly

    2. Tall skinny mocha. E v e r y S I N G L E D A Y…
Sometimes I also get a trenta unsweetened iced green tea.. and if I dont, I’m usually back for round 2.

  20. Jenn

I’m almost finished with The Orphan Train and am enjoying it much more than I thought I would. Excellent book.

I have been obsessed with the Peach Green Tea Lemonade this summer. My kids just ordered the Cotton Candy Frappuccino off the secret menu. It’s the vanilla bean frappuccino with 2 pumps of raspberry. It was surprisingly really good.

    1. Jennifer

Can they make that with no caffeine for my kids? My kids would love that!

      1. Rachel

I don’t think the vanilla bean frap has any coffee in it, so it should be safe for the kids to drink (think milkshake)

        1. Jennifer

You are totally right! I need to try this for my kids!

  21. Jill

Reading: Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain. I’m an introvert (though I definitely enjoy being social at times!) and wanted to get a different perspective on people like me.

Starbucks: Iced Grande Soy Chai. Wanted a chai once on a hot day and tried it iced on a whim–it was great! So that’s my usual now. Or a Grande Iced Green Tea (unsweetened).
Before I was pregnant with my daughter (she’s now 3), my usual was an Iced Grande Skim Vanilla Latte. Or Pumpkin Spice Latte in the fall (hot). But during the first 6 months of pregnancy, I couldn’t tolerate the smell of coffee. Like, my husband couldn’t even brew it in the house. Then it seemed to give me heartburn. And I was getting too much caffeine from it anyway. So switched to the chai.

    1. Jennifer

Isn’t it weird how pregnancy changes your tastes??

  22. Pilar

    1. I’am reading two books one is: Open City by Teju Cole and the other is The Black-Eyed Blonde by Benjamin Black both are wonderful books but I like Open City better.

    2. I only go to Starbucks during the Fall and Winter seasons and I usually get the Pumpkin Spice Latte or the Peppermint Hot Chocolate. 🙂

  23. Megan

I just finished reading the language of flowers. Amazing book, definitely in my top 5!

I don’t drink Starbucks much as I like to hit the independent places but when I do I order a soy chai, no water with a shot of vanilla. Yum!

  24. Laura

I’ve been reading Rue McClanahan’s “My First Five Husbands.. and the Ones Who Got Away.” It’s pretty neat though I have misplaced it in my move so I’ll pick up where I left off whenever I unearth it, which should be soon since I’ve been unpacking boxes forever.

My go-to Starbucks order is a Salted Caramel Frappuccino. I’ve hounded the baristas forever about when they’re going to come back and last time I went (last month) they said at the end of August. Haven’t been to a Starbucks since though. Other than that, I’ll settle for the Caramel Ribbon Crunch frap or a peppermint mocha frap. One of the many perks of living in AZ is that frappuccinos are perfect year round! Though I do miss hot coffee from Kwik Trip when I lived in WI.

    1. Jennifer

Kwik Trip! Whenever we are in WI I make B stop there. I just like the name!

  25. Jessica Dortch

I can tell you what not to read… The Maze Runner. A friend and I started reading it, she finished the first book just barely and I couldn’t finish it. But…. I cant wait for the movie to come out! Then I will feel ok with not finishing it lol.
But a great easy read that I just finished is the Lunar Chronicles. It’s a really fun series, but having to wait a year for the last book to be published is torture.

I love the Green Tea Frapp. They look horrible but taste amazing.

    1. Jennifer

This is good to know. I don’t like when I can’t get into a book.

  26. Hannah

    1. I’m reading ‘Unbroken’ by Laura Hillenbrand. I read the first 50 pages & checked to see if it’s a true story because it seems impossible the life this guy had. Remarkably, it is a true story and unfortunately it’s not all happy. I’m about half way through & I don’t know if I have ever been so attached to a “character”

    2. I rarely go to Starbucks, the last time was probably 2 winters ago, but I always crave it & I’m really craving it now. At the time I always got a chai tea latte. Next time I go to Target I’ll have to get Starbucks

    1. Jennifer

That sounds like a good plan!

  27. Jackie Martelli

We’ve been getting Starbucks way too often lately. Usually it’s a Grande Iced Red Eye, so strong, so good! The PSL just isn’t strong enough for me. And the frappachinos are delicious but taste like a dessert, not a coffee so I don’t get those too often!

    1. Jennifer

What is an Iced Red Eye???

      1. Jackie Martelli

It’s a coffee with a shot of espresso, yum!

  28. Loren

    1. I’m going to start The Fault in Our Stars. I really am. It’s been sitting in my car for about 2 weeks. I recently finished the Divergent trilogy. But I am taking 5 classes and work anywhere from 10-40 hours on the weekend, it’s impossible to plan everything out, and hard to find time to read for fun. Which is sad, I used to read like my life depended on it…I was watching The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug yesterday & I was thinking “Oh yeah, I read this book when I was like 10 years old…”

    2. I used to be very intimidated by ordering from Starbucks. I only ever ordered the White Chocolate Mocha because a friend recommended it. I also really liked the Peppermint Mocha. One day, I noticed how they have the calories listed on the board, and decided to try the Caramel Machiatto instead, as it’s about half the calories of the White Chocolate mocha! I love it, never tried it skinny though. I ordered the White Chocolate again one day for the hell of it, and I found it to be way too sweet, after getting used to the other one. That won’t stop me from getting the Salted Caramel Mocha though! I just ask for no whip (I find once it melts your drink is even sweeter)

    1. Jennifer

Try the skinny! I swear you can’t even tell the different!

  29. Debbie

I really don’t read books just read online. The only thing I drink is black tea and black coffee but I bought my husband a vitamix blender so I’ve been drinking alot of smoothies especially kale, apple and ginger but we also make some yummy ones too.

  30. Gina O

    1. Not sure what to read next. Finished Big Little Lies this weekend and I really liked it! Leaning towards the new Tracey Grave Garvis book, Every Time I Think of You.

    2. Usually I make my own drink at home. When I go to Starbucks I order the nonfat Hazelnut Macchiato upside down, if it’s venti I have to get an extra shot. Since I usually order a venti in the mornings, upside down is important. They pour shots of espresso first and that avoids getting a long sip of straight espresso, important when you drive thru and can’t stir the drink.

  31. Rachel

I’m currently reading 2 different books:

Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg (a story about the butch and femme culture of the 1960s. Really good, and also very tragic)

Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor (teen fiction series written about the Alice in Wonderland storyline. Quick read)

As far as my starbucks drink: Dirty Chai! It’s a shot of espresso in a chai tea. I love chai but often need the extra kick of coffee, so this is perfect for me! I think it tastes better hot, but you can also order it iced.

    1. Jennifer

I don’t think I have ever had a chai tea. I might need to!
