PetBox, who kindly sent me this (Premium) box to review, is a monthly subscription box for pets (dogs or cats) that allows you to select what items you wish to receive in your box!  They are (I believe) the only box out there that allows you to do this. You can opt to select your own items for the month or you can opt for a “Surprise Me” box where PetBox will hand-select items for you. You can opt for a dog box, a cat box, or a combination dog / cat box. I receive the “Surprise Me” Dog Box to review on a monthly basis.

PetBox ships via FedEx Smart Post and took just under a week to arrive.

I receive the surprise option I never know what to expect from PetBox since they select your items for you.  If you opt to select your own items you are allotted 800 points (usually 4-6 items) and are able to “shop” with your points (items are assigned point values in the store).

The Information Card

Since PetBox is totally customized they don’t include an information card.  Like I always mention though, my box isn’t totally customized to me (it’s a review box), it’s more of an example of items you could select for your box.  Here is what was included:

~Natural Balance Dog Food Sample (Sample): Baxter and Buddy always eat the same brand of dog food, so they flipped out when I gave them this to try. They were so excited and pretty much inhaled it. I’d say they liked it.

~Treat Simple Peanut Butter and Banana Treats ($7.99): Admit it, you think peanut butter and banana treats sound pretty good too! The treats are tiny and only have 5 calories each, which is good for the furries waistline.

~Old Mother Hubbard Soft Bakes ($4.99): The dogs love these.  They are almost like soft baked cookies. Except they are dog treats.

~Smart N’ Tasty Tuna Grain Free Dog Treats (150 points) ($5.98): This is the only item I could find on PetBox, so that is why it’s the only one with a point value attached.  I tried to find the rest, I swear!  The boys haven’t tried these treats yet, but they are small which is good and I think it’s funny that they are fish shaped (they are tuna flavored).

~Hatchables Dog Toy ($12.99):  As you can see in the first picture, this is an egg and then it hatches into a turtle.  Super cute.   My dogs of course have zero idea how to unhatch it, but the kids get it.

~CMR Joint Health Formula Tablets: I cannot find any information on this online.  I spent  way too long looking last night and I came up empty!  I’d like to find some information / details before I give this to my dogs, so I will have to keep looking.

Since I couldn’t find a price for the supplements I couldn’t do a breakdown on the October 2014 PetBox.  I liked the treats and the toy and would have picked those on my own, but I probably would have picked something else in place of the supplements.

    Hey jen! ,
DO you know how it works, i like to get the surprise box from pet box, but recently did a survey and got an extra 50 points ? will they add more to my box ?or do i have to pick something out for 50 points ?

      I don’t know?? I’d e-mail them!

My dog likes Natural Balance food. Actually that’s all she can eat (either potato and duck or fish and sweet potato). Kind of expensive but better than going to the vet for tummy issues. And Petco sends coupons all the time.

I really want to somehow scale back on some of the boxes I am getting, and between this one and Barkbox, I think I am coming around to keeping this one. I got great deals on both and love them both, but it’s hard to beat the ability to completely customize this one. My October box has not shipped yet, and I was getting ready to email about it when I got an email that said that one of the items I chose is out of stock and they will be sending me a substitute. What I like about this is they contacted me and they also assured me that the points I spent on that item will be available for next month’s box, so they are really making it right.

Hey Jennifer! Try putting some treats inside the toy when it’s wrapped up in the egg form and see if your dogs figure it out!
