Yay! WB’s Koala Crate arrived today! This box and a few others actually got delivered this morning, while the rest of my mail came in the late afternoon. I love when we get two mail deliveries a day!

If you aren’t familiar, Koala Crate is from Kiwi Crate’s new line of crates. It’s designed for preschoolers ages 3-4 and includes all the materials and inspiration for projects related to a theme such as colors, transportation or safari. Crates are designed to give children exposure to new materials and new concepts that encourage hands-on learning and fun.

Koala Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and took about a week to arrive.

When I saw the November theme in other people’s reviews I was kind of disappointed that I hadn’t ordered it.  So when I ordered using the Black Friday code I was SO hoping my subscription would start with November and I realized in the first look that it did!

The November 2014 (and first ever) Koala Crate theme was “Colors”.  This is so perfect for WB right now because he’s still working on getting his colors down.  He calls everything green.

The “Colors” Koala Crate included the following three projects / activities:

Color Scavenger Hunt

The first project we worked on was “Color Scavenger Hunt”.  This project was described as a fun, active way to play with color matching and naming. It was low on the messiness scale and low grown-up involvement scale.

With this activity, you are supposed to use the color use to roll a color and then you are suppose to run and find something in the house that is that color and put it on the appropriate color card.  WB wasn’t into searching for items today, but he was WAY interested in rolling the cube.  So into it.  So he rolled it and then we’d talk about the color he landed on, find the matching color card and then roll again.

Watercolor Banner

The second activity was the Watercolor Banner which is described as a fun, kid-friendly way to explore color while creating unique artwork.  It was high on the messiness scale and  medium on the grown-up involvement scale.

This was easily WB’s favorite activity of the box.  He was SO into painting.  So into it.  We clearly need to paint more.  We both did a little of the coloring of the banner with crayons, but he did the painting on his own.  At one point he told me “you no touch paint”.  LOL!!  He loved it.

Color Explorations

The last project was Color Explorations which consisted of open-ended activities to experiment with colors .  It was low on the messiness scale and medium on the grownup involvement scale.

For this one WB and I did some more painting and talking about colors.  We used the painted to mix and make new colors and help up the color cards to see what colors two cards together make.

Just like Kiwi Crate, Koala Crate comes with an activity book.  “imagine!” includes stories, mazes and other fun activities relating to the theme.
