WB’s December 2014 Koala Crate arrived earlier in the week and we spent a little time this afternoon working on the activities.

If you aren’t familiar, Koala Crate is from Kiwi Crate’s new line of crates. It’s designed for preschoolers ages 3-4 and includes all the materials and inspiration for projects related to a theme such as colors, transportation or safari. Crates are designed to give children exposure to new materials and new concepts that encourage hands-on learning and fun.

The Box

Koala Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and took over a week to arrive. This box shipped in December so I am calling it my December box.

First Look

This box looked so cute!  I knew what the theme was going to be, but I wasn’t sure about all the projects until I opened it all up.

December 2014 Koala Crate
The Theme

The December 2014 Koala Crate theme was “Safari” and included the following three safari related items:

Project #1 – Safari Puppets

Safari Puppets – The Supplies

The first project we worked on was Safari Puppets.   This project includes all the materials needed to match faces and textures to create your puppet friends. It was low on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved creating and discovering.

Safari Puppets – The Final Product

I laid out all the pieces for WB and just watched how he matched things up.  He was all over the place. LOL!  We eventually settled on “my” way, but he was pretty clear that he wanted four faces on one puppet body, none on another, etc.  LOL!  I think he enjoyed playing with the puppets more than making them.

Project #2 – Safari Search

Project #2 – Safari Search

The second project in the box was Safari Search.  This project included everything you need to go on an expedition at home to find hidden safari animals.  It was low on the messiness scale, high on the grown-up involvement scale and involved moving – gross and communicating.

WB and I haven’t actually worked on this one yet.  I am going to save it for a day when L is home and pair him and WB up together to go hunting.  I should have taken a picture of the puppets, but they are used in this project as well.  That is what you hide around the house or outside.

Project #3 – Mixed-Up Animals

The third project this month was “Mixed-Up Animals”.  It included everything you needed to play a memory game or mix and match to create silly animals.  This project was low on the messiness and grown-up involvement scales and involved moving – fine and discovering.

Hands down this was WB’s favorite item in the box.  I handed him the stack of cards and he knew what away which matched up with what.  Then I mixed them all up and he just looked at me like I was crazy.  LOL!

imagine!

Just like Kiwi Crate, Koala Crate comes with an activity book.  “imagine!” includes stories, mazes and other fun activities relating to the theme.

I love these pictures of your little guy with his boxes. This is how I want to feel about my boxes. If they don’t make you this happy, then there’s no reason to bother.

      Exactly!!!

Last month was our first Koala Crate (after getting Kiwi Crate twice and realizing it was way too much for my just turned 3 yr old) and we LOVED it!! We got the colors box (does everyone get the same Koala Crate? Does it go by gender?) I love how some of the activities you can do over and over again.

I think I would pay for this weekly!! So happy we discovered this sub!

It doesn’t go by gender. I *think* it goes in a row. Like your first box is Colors, then Safari, then ?
