So many things annoy me about traveling. I’m not one that enjoys “the journey”. I just want to get to the destination and get the fun started. I’ll stick to air travel related items only in this post. Otherwise, we’d be here all day ;).
Airport Security: Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind going through airport security. If you need me to take off my shoes, fine. Need me to go through the special x-ray scanner? That’s fine too. It’s the other people in line I hate. Specifically, the slow people who don’t know the rules or the people that know them and like to bitch about it. Yeah, you need to take off your belt. And take your pennies out of your pocket. But you don’t care, you go ahead and leave all that on and then wonder why the metal detector went off and why you “singled out” for extra screening. If you got that crap out of your pockets we could all get through security much much faster and stop getting to the airport 2 hours before our flight. And for those that complain about security the entire way through, well, why don’t you try driving to Hawaii next time!
Gate Rushers: Ugh. You know them. I’d say on any given flight, what, maybe 10% have never flown before? The other 90% knows the drill. Passengers needing special assistance first. Then First Class. Then Group 1 and so on. Yet every time they announce the plane is getting ready to board, everyone bounces up and crowds around the gate. Listen we are all going to be on the plane squeezed together soon enough, why start now? And I really enjoy the people who are in Group 4 and try to board during Group 1. Hello?? What part did you miss here? Go back and sit down until they call your Group!!
Carry-On Baggage: Listen, I understand the need for carry-ons just as much as the next guy. I would never board a plane without my iPad and stack of gossip magazines. I’m talking about people and their massive carry-ons. The ones that barely fit in the overhead bin. And I really enjoy watching people block the aisle while they try to heave their massive bag into the bin. Don’t worry a-hole, there are only about a hundred people behind you, waiting on, uh, YOU. Take your time. On that same note, I really love when those same idiots are taking to get that wedged in bag down from the bin (again while the line waits). And don’t even act concerned when you knock the people around you in the head when you finally do get that giant bag down. I’m sure they will be just fine. Again, not that you care. If you don’t want to pay the $25 baggage fee, I’ve got a tip. Pack lighter. Or drive.
Kids on Planes: It’s not really the kids I dislike, it’s the adults. I have a three year-old that has been on an airline about a dozen times, so I know just what traveling with kids is like. You can’t expect the airline to have snacks for your kids or to bring you drinks for YOUR kid whenever he wants one. Parents need to be ready for that! All L needs to travel now is an iPad. And don’t give me that crap about too much screen time. If your kid would be happy watching Toy Story 1,2 and 3 on a cross country flight, but you decide that’s too much screen time for one day and your kids spends the rest of the flight screaming, you should be kicked off the plane!!
I feel better already having gotten that out! Now tell me, what annoys you about traveling??
I couldn’t have said it better myself!! I’ve missed your “Things That Annoy Me”… I have to confess, I like when all the gate rushers are standing there and we are lucky enough to have been upgraded to first class, and then we nonchalantly get up from our seat and cut in front of the gate rushers and don’t get rejected by the attendant….tee hee…

could not agree more with all of the above. i also enjoy when the fat business men stand there and watch mothers who have their small children – who are quiet and well behaved – try to hold the kid, collapse the stroller, hold the bags, etc. dude, step it up and help the poor woman. don’t stare at her and get annoyed that she is taking an extra couple minutes. oh, and those people that need to rush to exit as soon as the door to the plane opens after landing…where exactly do you think you are going? you are in row 27. sit down. going to be a while…..
OMG, yes! What do they think they are doing by jumping up so fast? You don’t get a prize if you are the first a-hole standing in the aisle!
I couldn’t agree more with Courtney (above). I HATE when people behind you try to rush the door as soon as we land. Like the rest of us don’t want to get out just as bad as you!
And I’ve learned in the security line to always try and get behind a businessman. Never kids or old people! 🙂
what about the people who stand without moving on the walk side of the moving sidewalks?
