I’ve been going through all of L’s old things to see what we can reuse (mostly everything) and what we need to buy before the new kid comes, so I thought I’d share some of my favorite baby items.
1). Homedics Soundspa: This might be my all time favorite baby item. It’s a sound machine / projector. I used it with L and he was sleeping through the night by about 7 weeks! I have given it as a gift numerous times and everyone loves it. I used to take this thing everywhere we traveled so that L wouldn’t have any problems sleeping in a strange place. It worked like a charm.
2). Fisher-Price Rainforest Booster Seat: We happen to have this exact one, but I just like the idea of a plastic booster that you can attach to any chair. I never liked our highchair (or highchairs in general). L was always, well, so much higher up than us and it felt like he was not even sitting with us at the table. Plus, highchairs are such a pain to clean. With a plastic booster you can throw it in the dishwasher and it’s like new again!
3). Baby Gap First Favorites: This is my all time favorite line for sleepers, onesies, etc. The fabric is soft and washes so nicely. It doesn’t fade like other brands. Plus, it’s super cute. I am very picky about baby / kids clothes and I can always count on Baby Gap!!
4). Boppy Pillow: I loved my Boppy. At first I thought I would never use it, but I used it all the time. L loved chilling in his Boppy and it does make feeding (even bottle feeding which we did) even easier.
5). itzbeen Timer: I realize I could probably track feedings on my iPhone, but I like the timer way better because both B and I (or whoever was watching L) could tell the last time he ate, how long it had been between feedings, etc. We keep L on a daytime feeding schedule so that he got all of his formula during the day (instead of during the day and at night), which is what got him to sleep through the night so early!
6). Maclaren Volo Stroller: I have nothing but good things to say about this stroller. It’s lightweight and sturdy and served us very well. The only drawback is that I could never figure out how to close it?? It always took me forever. It always took B two seconds. We dragged this stroller everywhere (Las Vegas, St. Lucia, New York City, a few trips to Disney World, etc.), so it’s been thrown around by airport workers like crazy. And it’s never gotten damaged at all! An awesome awesome stroller!
7). Pampers Swaddlers: Some people swear by Huggies, Luvs, store brand, etc. but for new babies, I love Pampers. When they get a little older, I don’t care so much. But for some reason, I love Swaddlers for babies. I also prefer Pampers wipes to Huggies. I feel like Huggies wipes rip? Maybe it’s just me.
Do you have any items on my “favorites” list? Do you agree? If not, what do you love??
Umm I am so with you on Pampers! I’ve tried the others and we were miserable trying to finish a pack! I miss swaddlers so much I wish they made them in bigger sizes! Also? Huggies wipes are THE WORST! Pampers all the way there too!
Well waaaay back when I had kids Pampers were still better, no Boppy, no timer, similar booster and stroller. I had a sound thing but not that one. Was Lucas into the Bumbo thing? I love that name…Bumbo!

Ohhhh I wish you had this post a year ago. We also LOVE our noise maker and take it everywhere- sadly it took us a few months to realize she needed sound to sleep (yup, we sucked!). I swear by Kirkland Costco wipes (and diapers are great too- but they don’t make newborn anyhow). I REALLY wish I had that tracker thingy- my notebook was confusing. You clearly know what you are doing…i’m still clueless. The swing was my lifesaver for the first few months- she would only take naps in it, so don’t forget to stock up on batteries (unless you have some fancy new sing that can be plugged in???)!!!
Ohh, I will have to try those wipes!!! I am cracking up, I swear by my sound machine. I should have gotten you one!!!! If / when you have another one, I will send you a timer too!!
Nice tips! Thanks for sharing.
I agree on the Swaddlers. The best newborn diapers. With my last baby we started using cheaper diapers later (after 3 babies who exclusively used Pampers), but for tiny little bums, nothing beats Swaddlers. And I agree with the comment about the Costco wipes – they are great!
I went through several high chairs and the best one I had was the $20 one from IKEA. It was so simple & easy to clean.
We have and love all those items too!! The only thing we dont have is the itzbeen, it was on my wish list, but I never bought it! Maybe next time……..
I really love the baby bjorn bibs!! Madison actually still wears hers if she is eating something messy. It is wipeable one one my most used baby items!
I forgot to mention…about the Huggies wipes…I have found that the ones in the plastic box container always rip, and the ones in the soft pack are way better. I don’t know why that would be, but maybe it has to do with the ones in the box being kind of dry -at least that’s how they seem to me.
