Birchbox offers 4-6 (sometimes more) hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door each month. You can review the samples you receive on a monthly basis to earn points in their shop, which makes the “real” cost of the box even less. Points accumulate until you are ready to spend, so you can stockpile and combine with coupon codes to get some complete steals (which I try to do). I have been subscribing to Birchbox for almost 4 years now and would say they are one of the most (maybe the most) well known subscription boxes out there. They are certainly one of the longest lasting boxes.
Birchbox ships via USPS and all boxes generally ship by the 10th of the month.
Since I have two accounts I generally opt for that month’s curated box on one account and opt for the standard Birchbox on the other account. This review is on the April 2016 “Spring Awakening” Birchbox. You can check out my review on the curated “Effortlessly Elegant” box option here.
My April 2016 “Spring Awakening” Birchbox included the following items:
~Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask (1oz / 29mL) ($4.25): This mask is designed for those with dry, damaged, or lifeless hair which can result from frequent hair coloring. That basically describes my hair. I think I used used too much though (or didn’t rinse it out enough) because it left my hair feeling heavy. Next try I will try with way less.
~Marcelle 3-in-1 Micellar Solution (50mL / 1.7 fl.oz) ($3.50): This 3-in-1 solution removes makeup, cleanses skin, and soothes irritation. I actually received it in this month’s curated box option as well. I would have preferred a different sample, but I do like this so I can’t complain too much.
~My Daughter Fragrances Bloom 23 (~$2): This scent “mingles jasmine and gardenia with creamy vanilla, finishing off with warm sandalwood”. It’s a lighter than it sounds and has a nice bit of floral to it. I don’t mind getting fragrance samples in boxes, but I do always wish they had a sprayer on them (this one does not).
~REN Keep Young and Beautiful™ Instant Firming Beauty Shot ($18): This “beauty shot” allows skin to “retain moisture and diminish the appearance of wrinkles”. It also “revitalizes skin instantly upon contact to create a firmer, more lifted, and plumper look”. I used it as soon as I opened the box and I actually did see a difference. I didn’t believe that I only needed 2-3 drops, but it’s true. A little goes a long way with this one.
~The Beauty Crop PBJ Smoothie Stick ($14.95): LOVE! The color is beautiful and the little blenders on the stick? OMG. Also, it tastes like berries which is also a huge score!
All totaled I came up with a value of $42.70 for my April 2016 “Spring Awakening” Birchbox. That is an amazing value for Birchbox and increases when I add in my points for doing the product reviews (10 points per review = $1 to spend in the BB shop).
