April 2013 ipsy My Glam Bag Review

April ipsy My Glam Bag

I’m not sure what the issue was, but my April ipsy Glam Bag seemed to take extra long to get to me this month. They changed their shipping from plain old USPS to some DHL / USPS combo, so I am sure that has something to do with it.

The Pink Envelope

As always, I love the ipsy bubble mailer. And this month they added the “ipsy” to the mail, which makes me love it even more!

The Information Card

The April ipsy theme is “Pretty in Pink” and is described as “This April, pinks have never looked so pretty! We have a bouquet of amazing beauty products waiting just for you.” As always they don’t include product information on the card because they have videos on their site showing you how to use everything. Here’s what was inside:

~Be a Bombshell Blush (Sweet Checks)($16): This might be a little too pink, but I will give it a go.  Everything always looks different in the package than it does when it’s actually on, so I can’t really judge it until I see it on.

~MICA Beauty Cosmetics Shimmer Powder (Earth) ($14.95): I love this color, love the product, love everything.  Can you ever go wrong with shimmer?  I think not!

~Sation Nail Laquer (Of Corset I’ll Call You) ($5): I wish I liked this, but I’m just not loving the color.  I have a few similar colors and I never grab for them.  Although, I do have a lot of fun glitters I could put over this which would make me like it more.

~Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Treatment($4.39): I am going to try this stuff after I do my “I’m Totally Trying It” with my Moroccan Oil.  It sounds like it provides the same benefits, but appears to be about half the price.  I can’t wait to see how this stacks up!

~The Bag ($2): While I do think the white and pink bag is cute, it is also super impractical for me.  I will have this thing beyond dirty anywhere I put it. I don’t think you see many white cosmetic bags for a reason!

The Bag

All totaled the April ipsy My Glam bag had a value of $42.34.  Way way more than the $10 cost of the bag, but I still just felt kinda meh about it.  Ipsy is great for some people, but I just don’t think it’s for me?  I can’t put my finger on why though?  I mean it’s a great value and great stuff, so I don’t get it?  It’s not you ipsy, it’s me!

I got my haircut last night and the stylist used Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal in my hair afterwards… it was awesome! My hair has been dry since getting pregnant, and it made my hair feel healthy again 🙂 Now, I’m going to go back again today and buy it for myself!

I am still waiting for mine…. looks good. I really enjoy Ipsy but I agree about a white bag… not gonna stay clean for long

  3. Angela

Yep I’m passing on Ipsy myself. I was a member and then for some reason they said they couldn’t charge my card? Well I knew everything that was coming this month so I was like “Okay, no worries”. I think it’s because they focus on makeup and my glossy box does that too but with bigger and better stuff. For me it was either Birchbox or Ipsy and Birchbox won (by a longshot, I love Birchbox!)

  4. Jamie

I don’t know why you don’t care much for Ipsy! I love it.

I’d choose Ipsy over Birchbox in a second! (I get both)

  5. Noelle B.

I got everything the the reverse of you including the other eye shadow, the double pink. I didn’t even open the box because I’m pretty sure I won’t wear it and I’ll just pass it on to my sister. Otherwise lots of fun stuff to try but nothing I can imagine becoming part of my rotation. Also white bag + makeup dust + general life…what were they thinking?!?

I have been using soy renewal for about four years now, the stuff is amazing. I used to have the driest nastiest hair and ever since I started using that is super soft and silky and I don’t get dead ends nearly as much.

My bag seems to have disappeared, but fingers crossed it will show up tomorrow! Agree about the white bag. Seems impractical, especially as a cosmetic bag!

Well personally, this was my FAVORITE ipsy bag so far! I loved everything in it! I got different eyeshadow that you, I like yours a tiny bit better but I still loved it! I like ipsy so much better than Birchbox (I compare the two only because they are the same price). Anyhow, I LOVED IT!!! 🙂

I wish I had gotten the MICA shimmer instead of the double eyeshadow, but I’m excited to try the soy renewal.

I agree with you about ipsy. This is probably the best bag I’ve gotten, but not for me. Maybe because I have so much nail polish and makeup already. I usually end up giving most of it away. I want to cancel, but I keep thinking I’ll cancel and then the next bag will be awesome. It’s only $10 and there is/was a big waiting list. I CAN’T DECIDE!!!

The only thing I had different was the hair product. I have the Sexy Hair powder play instead. I like this bag. I thought the blush would be to bright, but I put it on lightly and it was great. I do agree, the white bag is a poor color choice. It will be dingy in no time!

I used to love Ipsy, but the past few months I’ve been super bummed about the products sent. (last months anchor bag was the best cosmetic bag by far though) the Mica crap contains carmine which is crushed up beetles, so I will not be putting that grossness on my face. I haven’t gotten a chance to check the ingredients of of the other products yet, but the pinks are all ugly in my opinion. I’m super pale & have no desire to look like a preteen playing dress up.
Most of my newer Ipsy bag contents will end up being sold on eBay to get my $10 back.
I’m such a hater today hahaha

I’m finally able to look back at blogs that reviewed this! This month I tried not to look at any sneak peaks or reviews until I got my bag! Those are hard to bypass though…I did pretty well. I was still surprised for the most part when I got my bag. I’ve been over the moon for all the bags since I signed up almost a year ago, with the exception of last months bag, but this one was pretty top notch. I received the hair powder and rather than the argan oil stuff. Which is awesome because I always need volume. I’ve only tried the blush so far but I love it. I’m very fair skinned so pink looks better on my pale skin. Glad you like the shimmer…I’m excited to try that too! And the bag isn’t a big deal to me…I don’t usually use any ipsy bag for cosmetics anyway. I use them for other misc things!

According to Ipsy’s facebook page, they had a problem with their cosmetics bags this month. Some subscribers received the pink and white one, as shown here and on their website. Other members were sent a floral print bag. They will be sending the white with pink trim bags to the subscribers who received the wrong one with their May shipments. I kind of wish I got an extra bag too!

First I want to say how much I love your blog and so happy I stumbled upon it! This was my first ipsy bag and I agree, it was ehh. I have an 11 year old daughter I think I will save this for her. Thanks for all the great reviews!!!
